Alternatively, press the windows key and "r" to bring up the run box, and type "jaws18", or replace the "18" with whatever version of JAWS you are running.

You can do one of to things. If you know that the screen reader’s on your desktop, you can press the windows m to go to the desktop. Pres j for JAWS—better not have anything with that letter on your desktop. However, press enter and see what happens after you’ve pressed the letter. Another thing you could try is, if you’ve got a special hotkey for JAWS, try pressint it. Need any more help, feel free to write back. Also, I’d write to VFO about this/the feedback hub.

When I listen to some audio broadcasts JAWS seems to rabbit on and on. Hitting the control key does nothing to shut it up. So, I turn JAWS off by the insert F4 method. My question is, how do I turn it back on after the broadcast is finished?

The best way to turn JAWS off like you did is pressing
Insert+Spacebar+S. Then do that again when you want speech
back.

Best from,

Carolyn

Highlight the Icon on the desktop and hit the Applications key.

Arrow down to properties and hit Enter.

Tab over to shortkey/Hot key and hit J.

Tab over to Apply and hit enter.

Now tab to OK and hit enter.

Now to restart Jaws just hold down Alt and Control together and hit J.

a miranda ng question

Jed Barton <jedbarton@...>

Hey guys,

OK, i need a little help here. Not sure why this is going on. I'm
running the latest jfw and miranda ng. The problem i am having is when
i arrow down my list of friends on facebook, i can see them no
problem. However when i press enter on 1 of them, it just keeps
repeating their name over and over again non-stop. Even while i am
typing them a message it just keeps repeating their name over and over
again. It's really annoying to say the least. Any idea what it could
be? Not sure if it's a jfw thing or what. Any thoughts?

Re: clarificationon music sharing program

Randy Barnett <randy@...>

Never heard of a shareing app for just music but there are dozens of ways to share files. mp3's are just files after all.
Dropbox.
One Drive.
Email.
Google is a great resource. find the app you want then try it or ask about it here.

Re: Touch screen vs non touch screen

Hi David,

I bought a new laptop last fall and decided to buy a touch screen model. Now, about 9 months later, I have touched the screen probably a handful of times. I am not saying this is what you do, but as somebody who is used to using a keyboard with Jaws I find little value in the touch screen. Maybe this would be different if it was a dedicated tablet, but in a laptop for me it’s just not a big deal. I was also curious so decided to give myself the option.

Best regards,

Sieghard

I am hoping to get a new Windows 10 computer.  I noticed some brands have a touch screen.  My question is, any advantage with a touch screen over the conventional screen on a lap top?  More specifically, does JAWS work well with the touch screen like the V O does on Apple products?  Or no difference.

Hi Charles,

Thanks. At least I know it isn't just in my head. I didn't have trouble posting my profile summary the first time, but then it all got complicated. I didn't really care about it until my book came out, and I would like to connect with others to promote it. Instead, I'm thinking of deleting it all. I don't like how it has gotten so messed up. Not professional looking.

Unfortunately LinkedIn has become more problematic with JAWS. I haven't made any profile changes lately but the design of LinkedIn has changed and there are labeling problems with some of the buttons on the pages. In the past I did get some telephone technical assistance from them but it was a result of an on line survey about LinkedIn that I participated in. They could definitely improve their web accessibility for screen reader users. I primarily use it for participation in professional groups which are quite useful.

Do any of you use Linked-in with JAWS? I tried changing my profile and education, because it seems to be all messed up, but cannot seem to do it without sighted help. If any of you have tips, please help.

Hi, it's Annabelle.
How would I obtain more information on an installed synthesizer in JAWS? Specifically things like the CLSID? I can't seem to find that in the Registry Keys.

Re: Accessibil partission managers

You can do many things with disk manager in Windows 10, but some require use of the JAWS cursor and the simulated right mouse click to complete. Type disk manager into windows search and have a look around.

Third party could be a program called AMI  partition, but again, my experience requires extensive use of the JAWS cursor to perform many activities.

Also, you could run diskpart from a command prompt in windows but you will need to google diskpart to get a list of commands that work.

All of the above work but do have a learning curve, or at least they did for me

I hope those more expert than me will respond to your problem, but I am guessing that your Magic has a 32 bit version of JAWS with it. Your 64 bit machine will require a 64 bit version of JAWS.

I am not sure how you can resolve this without being in touch with the Magic/Jaws support people.

Hello everyone,

My name is Tom. I am new here to the group this is my first message.

Last month, I purchased a copy of Zoomtext Fusion home edition,  which as you know includes Jaws 18.

The problem i seem to be having is after successful installation, I bring up Jaws 18, but no speech.

Jaws 18 seems to be working great on my 32 bit Windows  PC, but not the 64 bit PC's.

Do you guys have any idea why that could be? VFO wants me to call them to troubleshoot the problem, but I can't because I work in a call center Monday thru Friday from 8am to 6pm Eastern Time, and no phones are allowed in there.  I know there tech support line is open until 7pm, but by the time i get home on the bus it is 7  :(   so i have no one to help me with this..

The real puzzling part to me, is VFO says I haven't used any of my activations yet. How can that be i've installed Fusion 11 on 3  computers and on each computer i put in the serial number & activation code that was given to me in email by VFO, they didn't send me no activation CD, so how can they not be showing activated on their end but showing activated on mine? that seems weird to me.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm about in tears over this fussing why the Jaws voices aren't speaking.  I hear sound,  just no Jaws voice..

thanks,  I don't mind talking on the phone about it i just can't during work hours.

Hi Tom!

There are two versions of JAWS, one for 32 bit, and another for 64 bit computers. You haveto put the JAWS 64 bit on your 64 bit computer. You are probably running the 32 bit JAWS on your 64 bit computer. That is probably why it is not working! Just download the 64 bit version of JAWS 18 from

www.freedomscientific.com

and you should be good!

Welcome to the list!
