Hi:

Go into the JAWS menus, under Utilities, go into Inport/Export settings, then select Migrate Settings.

Hope this helps.

Re: Jaws2018 and outlook

Very interesting, for me Control+Shift+Tab works 100% of the time where as with Control+Y I always get a crash using Jaws 18 and with 2018 Beta it works better, but not always.

This is a very strange problem since it effects people in such different ways.

Richard,

I updated the subject line as we’ve drifted into another topic.

Generally, I use Ctrl, shift, tab to get out of an existing inbox and back to the tree. Then, as you, I use first letter navigation to  get to whatever folder I want. When I hit enter to take me into that folder, Outlook crashes, and JAWS becomes often unresponsive. I generally don’t use the Ctrl Y choice unless I need to open something not available on the trees via the way I described.

Hi,

How are you changing folders?

I have as many Email accounts as you in Outlook 2016 and changing folders has not crashed outlook yet.

I use Control+y and then first letter navigation to get to the account I want and hit right arrow to open it and down arrow to the inbox and hit enter.

I keep the ones that are not my main email closed to make it easier to get back to the inbox for this account that I use for most things.

Since I have 5 active accounts, each time I pop into my email, I check each one. I cannot be bothered with turning 2018 off, launching JAWS 18 each time I check mail, just do it too often. Office 2016 via Office 365 download. Anyways, Outlook is OK as long as I use Control+Shift+tab and I'm at least happy that the latest Office update seems to have fixed the problem with Excel. I need Excel every day and not having been able to really use it unless I went back to Jaws 16 was a real productivity problem for me.

Hi,

OK, I'll conditionally take back what I said about Control+Y with the Jaws 2018 Beta. I just unloaded Jaws 18 and loaded the beta and was able to switch folders with Control+Y, but after I switched to the Inbox for this email which I use for most of my list traffic, I tried Control+Shift+I which usually takes me back to my default account Inbox and Outlook instantly crashed. After it came back up I went to my default account and tried Control+3 to go to my contacts and Outlook instantly crashed. After I loaded it again I used Control+Y to switch to the inbox on this account and now Outlook also crashed as soon as I pressed Enter.

I'd love to hear how Control+3 and Control+Shift+I works for those who have multiple accounts, I do wonder if the account type could make a difference? I have my business account setup as an Exchange account and my two other accounts are both Outlook.com accounts. There still is a lot of crashing going on as two weeks ago I could do all of these keystrokes without a problem.

Sieghard

I wouldn’t be quick to say that the final release of JAWS 2018 will not work with ‘Edge in the Fall Creators’ update, as I imagine they are working on that, and, this is, after all, only the first beta.

I will say that I like the new installer.  It is self-voicing.  They tell you to press ctrl-p to hear the agreement and it plays an audio file.  Other than that, it is easier to install JAWS, although the time it takes to actually perform the install seems about the same.  I installed it over a previous version of JAWS and did a stand-alone install.  I got the migration wizard automatically and it performed well.

Haven’t tried OCR yet.  Got to find some files to try it with.

Re: Jaws2018 OCR

How do you change accounts/folders? For me Outlook crashes both on my Windows 10 laptop and PC with Jaws 18 or 2018 beta as well as on my Windows 7 PC's with Jaws 18 and 2018 Beta. However, the crash only happens if I use Control+Y or shortcuts like Control+3 or Control+Shift+I. If I go into the folder list from the Inbox or whatever mailbox I am in with Control+Shift+Tab I can go to any other folder or account (I have 3 accounts set up) and all is well on both Windows platforms and with both Jaws 18 and 2018.

I will try this after they fix 2018 with Outlook 2016. Since email is the main thing I do on the computer, and it is open all the time, I cannot have JAWS 2018 running as it will crash Outlook as soon as I go to change folders and/or email accounts. Since I have 5 active accounts, each time I pop into my email, I check each one. I cannot be bothered with turning 2018 off, launching JAWS 18 each time I check mail, just do it too often. Looking forward to kicking the tires on 2018 as soon as that is fixed. An yes, this was reported via beta form the first day of the release.

Hi!

That is what I did as well. Once you save it as a JPG file! Just press applications or shift+F10 and arrow down to recognize with JAWS, and JAWS will bring up a virtual document that you can read, copy from, and perform commands for a virtual document. This is beautiful!

I would think you would save the scan as a jpg file then perform the Jaws OCR on it.  Least that is what worked for me.

I successfully scanned a page with my Cannon LIDE 110 scanner.

The only way I could get the migration was to reboot  and then restart Jaws 2018 then it popped up
I could not find it in the menus anywhere. Just inport/export witch wanted a backup file I didnt have.
You could start 18 export a backup of your settings then open 2018 and import it if nothing else works.file .

Thats great So this fixs the same issue with other apps?
I was just wondering why would VFO have an installer that is not fully accessible with normal commands to their own software? Its not a big deal or anything just wondering why this is. :) Curious Smile

This is fixed in JAWS 2018 itself – you can now use Insert+B to read the dialogs in modern apps. After you upgrade to 2018, the problem goes away.

It just strikes me as strange that a Screen reader developer like VFO would have an installer that requires the use of the touch cursor to read the dialog box if useing Jaws 18 for the install.:)

If you use your prevous Jaws to do the install yu have to use the touch cursor to read the progress and dialog box...

I have verified that JAWS2018 works with Edge in the stable Creator’s edition of Windows 10.  I did have the Insider build installed and experienced problems with Edge support, so I reverted back to the stable release.

I have also noticed problems with the Windows 10 mail program’s reading pane not updating, such that, when you read your first message, then try to read any additional ones, you still get the first message read to you.  However, the screen shows the right thing.

I have reported this, and I imagine others have.

No problems here either with Ctrl+y or selecting from the folder list.

Richard,

Just tried it and no. Maybe I’ll just use that until the other is fixed and that way I can try some of the other features. I just tried 5 or 6 times and it was ok, let’s see what happens

Thanks,
