I have to say that I also find Canvas not to be user friendly at all. I have to use it for many things, and unless I have sighted help, there is no way to accomplish what needs to be done. Contacting Canvas for help or providing feedback on accessibility goes nowhere either.

Wish I didn’t have to use it.

I am afraid I completely disagree that canvas is totally accessible.

Parts are accessible and others are certainly not with a screenreader.

I have not time to go into details now but I was only recently discussing the problems not just for students but with a blind lectururer  who was also experiencing similar problems to me on his interface.

The disappointing thing is the way that Canvas  have been completely unresponsive to the specific feedback  I have offered on particular  problems.

Basically accessing and downloading course material is pretty OK but the accessibility of quizzes and feedback forms is sporadic at best, depending on how they are laid out. On some pages it is impossible to access any edit boxes to type anything in. Other quizzes have check boxes to respond to but NVDA and Jaws are unable to read the questions  associated.

The calendar seems an accessibility mess and I have never managed to make any sense of it.

Hello all, this question is for anyone but particularly  Debra Armstrong. I have a student that is attending courses at a community college. I was listening to the open line  cast that was made back in February. Debra, you say that Canvas is totally accessible with Jaws. Can you please email me off list on ways to help my client navigate the pages?

I was told that certain web browsers didn’t work with Canvas, and particularly Google Chrome. Here’s the link. https://utah.instructure.com/courses/325662/pages/navigating-canvas-with-a-screen-reader.

Yet, when I went to this link and used Internet explorer, I found that Canvas would not open in Internet Explorer.

When trying to navigate within Chrome, we found that for example when trying to read a message the message preview would come up, but the message body would not read the completed message. My client is using Jaws 21, the latest build. If there is any keystrokes to help read within Canvas, I would like to know what they are so I can give her some assistants before her classes starts on Tuesday.

Feel free to email me at malone_j@....

Hi,

I’ll forward this to a more relevant forum, but suffice to say that you must set up a password before enabling Windows Hello PIN method. You would do:

  1. Go to Settings (Windows+I)/Accounts/Sign-in options.
  2. Create a password for your account (don’t worry about creating a Microsoft Account unless you wish to use additional services). From Sign-in options, go to a list of sign-in options which includes Windows Hello Face, Password, among others. Select “Password” and create one if you haven’t done so.
  3. Test the password (log out and log in).
  4. Return to settings/Accounts/Sign-in options, then select Windows Hello PIN. You will be asked to enter your current password, along with setting up a PIN.

Note that Windows Hello Face and Fingerprint options will require appropriate hardware.

Cheers,

Joseph

Dear Listers: I recently had to have a new hard drive and thus a new install of Windows 10.

Formerly after boot up I would get the Windows welcome with sign in in which I typed a 4 digit password which would sign me in. This was set up by the person who sold me the computer.

Now I go straight to Windows desktop with no need for sign in. I would like to have the added security of a sign in password. How do I do this? I have gone to settings, accounts, sign in options, but the page reads poorly and I can’t seem to proceed.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Fellow Listerrs,

Ever since I created a Zoom account, I have been getting periodical emails of what “What’s new.” I usually just delete them; however, the last email talked about “Zoomphone.” I called enquiring about its accessibleness to JAWS, but no answer yet. Has anyone had any experience with it and is it accessible?

Thx

Hi. Taking a online course diploma of networking from http://www.upskilled.instructure.com. Only issue, was logging in and would not log me in, until I then checked the box. Works great with chrome, edge and firefox.

No issues, except the quizzes, wish there was an easier way to then turn off all the toolbars and use straight html and using windows 10 pro 64 bit and jaws 2021 latest version on a assuss laptop.

Works great.

Wish there was a way to see which members where in my course, trainers and students.

Thanks.

Ps: maybe debra could e-mail me off list as well.

Yeah so both are at least 10 years old and both were serviced in 2016. One regular maintenance and the other for maintenance, a cleaning and cell replacements.

They’re the big bulky style from back in the day, but that’s not my concern. Being an 80 cell display, it’s not like I’d be carrying it around anyway.

Thanks again,

You can use the pearl camera to scan things directly into jaws.  If you do the layered keystroke insert space and then oh for OCR and a for acquire, that should have you choose the pearl camera as your input source.

Hi Dan,

I have this problem too. Have you updated your Outlook lately?

Unlike the Windows update, This update is not automatic and I find I have to do it once a week or sometimes once a fortnight.

Once updated, Outlook works a lot better.

Steps to update:

  1. Press Alt + F
  2. Press Control + tab till you get to office account
  3. Tab to Update options
  4. Press tab or down arrow until Jaws says Update Now.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

That took care of the Outlook problem. Days later I now have a problem when flipping from a web site and Ms word. If I move to quickly between the web site and MS word Jaws will crash. Has anyone encountered this problem? Any thoughts of something I can do to correct the problem? Thanks, Kevin
