can I use double talk serial?

John Covici

Hi. I would like to use the double talk serial synthesizer with
Jaws. I did not see it in the list of synthesizers I could add, is
there something I need to download first or what?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, only have to use ocr with jaws then the web page comes up, but might abnd had to totally uinstall using a new removal tool. Got stubborn, so will go and download the ed sharp, for my course, and then see if windows defender has a fit with it will scan, then use http://www.ninite.com.which is a exe file and can select and install multiple files in silent mode. You run it and then show you in a list. So might try that, just uinstalled Avast and the files remaining will be gone next reboot.

Thanks.

Ps: but I want a third party tool. How well does windows defender catching malware, viruses, etc. just prefer a third party anti virus and a third party anti malware and have super anti spyware free.

Just my own personal preference and do have a windows firewall and one on our router.

Google Chrome reader mode

Cristóbal

Hello list

So for the longest, I’ve been a Firefox user and have started to play around with Chrome.

IN Firefox, there is a reader mode (alt+control_R) that you could activate to get rid of a lot of clutter on websites that support it. This is almost nearly universal, but for a few sites. CNN comes to mind.

IN any event, I was wondering if Chrome had an equivalent for this feature/keyboard command? Poking around in the settings, didn’t really come across anything. Nor did I find a keyboard command listed when doing a general Google search for Chrome keyboard commands. I did find an extension called read mode, but in its brief description didn’t mention a command. Just some icon to click to enable and disable this layout.

I do use and like the Jaws flexible web feature, but the alt+control+r command is probably my most used command in Firefox. Sometimes, you just want in and out on a site without having to configure beyond that one time you’re going to click through to read X, Y or Z.

I recall way back when, there was a programmer who put out some scripts for Firefox and IE called IEMax and FireFoxMax or something. One of the nifty keyboard commands in those scripts was a control+m for a pagination/reader mode. It was incredibly useful. This was way back with Firefox 4 or 5.

Anyway, any help for a Chrome newbie on this particular command would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristobal

Re: JAWS 2018 Full Version Direct Download Links + What's New

Hi Carolyn,

Just to clarify, when Microsoft Accessibility connects to your computer it has nothing whatsoever to do with Jaws Tandem. They use their own remote support utility that is built into Windows.

It probably is a matter of choice. I prefer to have the tandem option in case I need assistance from VFO on something and they ask to do that. Also, if Microsoft Disability helps, they always tandem, easier for them than to try to tell me, as much as I try to find out how or what they do when they do it.

An IT guy at Microsoft told me that there was an accessibility issue with outlook 2016 with this particular problem. I don’t remember what version of Outlook 2016 he said that was good with jaws, but the most recent version was not. I have experienced this problem on two different computers so far with jaws version 18.

Just my two cents worth, I don’t use any third party vires removal software with windows 10  and jaws your computer will run better if you
remove avast. Now I know other people have there opinions of this but as for me my computer runs a lot better with out third party vires removal
software. I find that windows defender does a fine job.

Hi.

Okay here are the steps to do this.

Assuming you have windows 10, but this will work for windows 8.1 and windows 7.

For windows 10,

1.       Press the windows and I key which will get you to the settings app.

2.       Press the end key on your keyboard, and this will take you to update and security.

3.       If you are using jaws 2018, you can use the shift insert ; to turn on touch cursur if needed.

4.       Then tab to the check for updates or if it says the list of the update.

5.       Tab to the button says download.

6.       Use the jaws touch  and then see what progress downloading.  It will then give you speech for jaws, until it reboots.

7.       Use windows control enter to turn on windows narrator when you hear your hard disk spin up and then it will reboot several times. This took me about 5 hours and was able to turn on the scan option in narrator, for the fall update, and use the caps lock left and right arrow keys.

8.       To turn on scan mode, use the caps lock and space and will say scan mode on. Then it will say percentage and updating.

9.       Then the final reboot, will say that it is updating 100 %, then will reboot, and then go to the windows login screen.

10.   Enter your password or pin to login.

11.   Then you will hear jaws come up and the desktop.

Hope that helps. Did that on Tuesday, and about 5 pm, started at about 12:30 pm, and it fixed my windows corrupted updates issue. And then was able to get other updates like the  updates.

Hope that helps.

the wlm problem does not show up with jaws 18.
i did import my settings when i installed 2018 full.
i have been seeing times when jaws will say something is unavailible when it
really is from pull down menus.
with wlm 2012 if i want to highlight text in a opened message and copy and
paste to notepad or another message the copy command will say it is
unavailible.
but most of the time the text really was copied to the clipboard and can be
pasted somewhere else.
if i am replying to a message copy and paste works fine.
another place was when i was trying to correct the default.jkm file.
when i tried to change the say next line which in my case was not defined it
said the change key? said it was not availible. but it really was.

serious jaws bug?

netbat66

this happened both times i tried to emport my settings from v 18. when i installed jaws 2018
on windows 7 and 10
everything appears to go fine. until....
***
if i use jaws 0 to open and change to the default jss file and save it with no changes, from then on it will say the default.kss file could not be found every time i reload jaws 2018.even though it is there in the enu folder.
after this it will announce an error every time i press the arrow keys.
i don't really know what it is saying because it spells out every letter of the message.
i got the original in the c:program data freedom scientific folder and put it back.
in the correct jaws folder and it works again.
and i can compile it with no errors. and there are no more errors when i press the keys.

Jaws Touch Screen Support

Owais Patel <owaisipatel@...>

Hi there everyone. Since the last few upgrades Jaws has supported navigate with Touch Screens. For who have used it what are your opinions about it? Could someone please share some of the gestures for things like selecting an item finger or going to the noxt item on the screen Etc? For the majority of blind people I've known an example of most known Touch Support always discussed is on iOs Devices. If someone uses an iOs device what arwh your thoughts in comparion of it with Jaws? Any thoughts would be highly apprdiated?

I have the same problem as Mark does and, yes, I did try and restart the computer. It restarted and went into demo mode after giving the same exact prompt Mark heard. It says, "activation successful click the finish button to exit" Supposedly the payment for SMa has not been received yet. That, they think is the problem. It is truly a bureaucratic problem, accounting did not send off the payment before the new release of 2018. Oh, the joys of new releases.
