Re: Remote connections?

You need to call FS and ask them to enable Remote Desktop, there is an extra charge for that, but I’ve had it for so long that I can’t remember how much it is.

If you do have it enabled, the router at your workplace has to be enabled for remote desktop and your particular computer needs to be assigned a port.

It is also best if your workplace has a fixed IP address because you need to know the IP address as well as the port in order to connect using Remote Desktop on your computer at home.

You would have to check with your employer if they are willing to set this up for you, I’m self-employed so I can do what I want with my router and computers.

It’s a bit of work to set it all up, but once you have it up and running it works well as long as you have a fast internet connection at home as well as at work.

I have my credentials saved and I just reboot my PC at my store when I go home, if I want to connect I just press enter on the Remote Desktop connection shortcut I saved to my desktop and it connects without me having to do anything, after about 10 seconds Jaws on my Windows 7 PC at work starts talking and I can use the computer the same way as if I sat in front of it.

I do by the way use a Windows 10 laptop at home, but that is not a problem.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi again all,

I am wondering how the remote connections work with Jaws 18.

I am not talking about the tandem help but actually being at home and using a VPN connection back to the office.

I believe that I have the professional copy of Jaws 18 and I should be able to do it but I don’t know how it works.

Anyone here done it and how well does it work?

We are doing some updates to the computer infrastructure and I want to make sure that we have all things necessary to do all the things we may want to do.

I have had to use such a feature in the past with WE and Windows 7.

I am now running Win 10 and Jaws 18 on my work unit.

Can I pull this off?

If I can’t do it with a VPN connection through the firewall will it work with a Remote Desktop License?

Thanks for any advice

Outlook 2010 jaws 18, message threading?

Shannon

Hello all,

It didn’t work wellif at all withWE but can you use the message threading in Outlook 2010 with jaws18?

It would make cleaning and taking care of messages that pertain to particular topics so much easier.

If so how do I enable this in Outlook 2010?

And I guess I might add if not in jaws 18 does it work in jaws 2018

I don’t have it yet but… if it works maybe I would get it

Thanks

Shannon

Re: J2018.1710.42 Update To Fix Outlook Issue Download Links

You can download this latest update and install it, it’s a full install and there is no need to install the original/first release of Jaws 2018.

I currently am using Jaws 18, so haven’t upgraded to Jaws 2018 yet.

My question is this:

Do I have to do the initial Jaws 2018 instalation before upgrading to the newest build, or do I just need the newest build itself?

My SMA is good for Jaws 2018—just need to know how to proceed.

I really want to get Outlook working again here if possible.

Note for Updated Build

The build of JAWS 2018 now posted for download, is newer than the one found on the shipping DVD for October 2017. This was necessary to add a fix for Outlook
365 customers who were not hearing auto-complete information when typing email addresses. Anyone who has previously installed JAWS 2018, and is experiencing
the issue with auto-complete in Outlook from Office 365, should download the current build and install over top of the earlier build. This fix will be
included in the first automatic update for JAWS 2018, scheduled to release in early December.

Take care.  Mike.  Dodgers, try again next year!

Hi,

Press the Windows key, then type “cmd” without the quotes.  You should hear Command Prompt Desktop App.  Now press your applications key or right click it, and select Run As Administrator.  Then you can follow my previous steps.

But if you don’t use the command prompt, you don’t need to worry about it.

I love the Chrome browser, and all of the Chrome apps, like Google Docs and so on.

I use JAWS and NVDA with windows 10. I would like to know how Chrome Vox next works, and the key commands and that!

Have a great one!

Hi Carol,

Go here for general usage:-

http://www.chromebook.com

Also, search on Youtube for Chromebook Accessibility.  They have done some very good described videos on learning how to use Chromevox Next.

Failing that, hit me privately with any questions, and I'll see what I can do.

I have a Chromebook and love it.

All the best

Steve

I am sorry to post this question, but is there anyone on this list that uses a ChromeBook? I need someone that can help me with some general instructions.  It is easy enough to open and use web pages, but how does one do anything else, grin.  Thank you.

Re: Jaws doesn't speak new output in command prompt as it appears

Hi,

Press the Windows key, then type “cmd” without the quotes.  You should hear Command Prompt Desktop App.  Now press your applications key or right click it, and select Run As Administrator.  Then you can follow my previous steps.

But if you don’t use the command prompt, you don’t need to worry about it.

All the best

Steve

Could you explain how to open a new console window? This terminology does not sound familiar. Thank you.
