Re: Jaws and Outlook 2010 spell check delay

Tim Ford

Hi Jim,

I am still using Outlook 2010, so my suggestion may not help.

Try the keyboard shortcuts instead of the tab key.  Most of those field and options do have a shortcut.  For example, Alt+ c accepts the first recommended option, alt +g accepts the “error” without changing the spelling.  There are of course more shortcuts, but this gives you a couple of the most commonly used shortcuts.  If they help, then we can give you the rest of the list.

If this does not help, then I have no idea.  I am running the latest Windows 10, JAWS 17, and I notice occasional slowdowns, moments of silence; this all started in recent years, and I suspect it is either the newer Windows, JAWS, or both.

Good luck,

Tim Ford

Subject: Jaws and Outlook 2010 spell check delay

Heya folks,

For many versions of Jaws and Outlook 2010 spell check every now and then, say 5 out of 10 times Jaws and Outlook 2010 spell check has a delay period when I tab thru its options. Its never been fixed in any new versions of Jaws as I am now running latest Jaws 2018 on a windows 7, 64 home PC, does anybody else get this delay? And is there a work around?

This issue stops me using the spell checker alltogether so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jim

First, Go into Word options. Arrow down to Advanced. Tab to the check box which will allow documents to open in draft mode, and check it.

Then, to get into draft mode, Open Word. Press the F6 key twice. Tab to the Draft Mode check box and check it. Then documents will open in Draft Mode.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike. They are not manual page breaks. They are soft page breaks.

Hi, Vic. I don’t know the reasoning behind why certain keystrokes can be activated via INSERT, while others can only be activated via CAPSLOCK. However, I know INSERT does not always act like JAWS key when in laptop mode. I think that in laptop mode, INSERT acts like an extended key, while CAPSLOCK acts only through JAWS, unless pressed twice quickly.

Word 2010 page breaks

Vic Beckley

Hi all,

I am running the latest version of JAWS with Word 2010 under the Windows fall creators update. When I arrow through a document in Word and come to a page break, it jumps to the next page. For example, when I arrow down to the bottom of page 1, it jumps to page 3 instead of page 2. Has anyone seen this before? Any way to fix it?

If Speech on Demand is already invoked, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will toggle between Speech on Demand and Speech Mute. If you are currently in Full Speech mode, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will say:

Not Available In Full Speech Mode.

This doesn’t work for me. When I press insert+space and then shift+s with speech on demand mode on nothing happens. I have tried over and over again with no success. I am using Eloquence if that matters.

Insert+Space, S to toggle between “speech on demand” and “full speech”. When in Speech on Demand mode, Insert+Space, Shift+S to toggle between speech on demand and speech entirely turned off (“speech mute”, as it’s called).

What is the keystroke for toggling between speech on and either speech mute or speech on demand?

Thank you.

Hi, Vic. INSERT plus SPACE followed by S doesn’t turn Speech on Demand on or off. What SHIFT plus SPACE followed by S does is:

If Speech on Demand is already invoked, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will toggle between Speech on Demand and Speech Mute. If you are currently in Full Speech mode, INSERT plus SPACE followed by S will say:

Not Available In Full Speech Mode.

It works perfectly here, every time. I don’t know what’s wrong with your installation – probably one for VFO Technical Support.

I did not like it so I turned it off, now it works just like the old one did!
