No, the title for the app accessed with Windows plus I is Windows Settings. The title for Control Panel reads, All Control Panel Items.

Thank you for the correction.  I was told this was a context menu for the control panel.

Hi Steve,

Type control panel into the search field, & you will get a control panel just like in Windows 7.  It looks like you're using the, Windows key + I, keystroke which opens a context menu of the control panel, at least that's my understanding of the, Windows + I, keystroke.  Power options is in 1 of those categories you posted, but I'm not sure which one.  I can't check because my Widows 10 system is down at the moment.

Re: Jaws Stops Reading Word 2016 Document

Robert Logue

I have the same problem as Ed. It happened today. I switched from print to draft view. Font was: 11 point
black on black
Times New Roman
Normal style
Line spacing: 1 lines.
Paragraph formatting: Aligned left

Default Jaws and Word setting only with recommended settings.

This is more likely to happen after using Word help.
Sometimes happens after copying text froma web page.
Rebooting fixes it.
Jaws screen refresh (jawskey+escape) doesn't fix it. Neither does restarting Jaws or Word.
Happens more after system has been asleep.
Bob

BTW: I haven't ben active in this group for a long time. Just trying to use Word effectively after not using it for many years.

Hi!

Sometimes, a message balloon pops up advising me of something, such as an update for Java being ready to install.  Typically, I ignore these because I just cannot get to it to “click” on it.  How can I get to these message balloons?

Thanks,

No power options option.

However, if I search system settings for "POWER", I get a few choices, none of which have fast-start on their dialog screens.

So how does one find, or get to, this mysterious check box?

I don't know why the fast start is found after pressing enter on the
settings that are currently unavailable. if anyone knows, I'd like to

move to W10 for good.

I have a super fast machine that boots into windows in less than 5
seconds... This is with fast start disabled. Yet Jaws takes 10 to 15
seconds to start.
My win 7 machine starts Jaws immediately.

how much does it take to jaws start up when you turn on your computer?

I use windows 10 64 bits, intel core i5 and jaws 2018 and after I
logged in it takes about 25 seconds to jaws to start up.

is this on the normal range?

what do you think?

Not sure, but one thing you have to know and just accept is that the Jaws cursor in Windows 10 often does not read anything. I use Sage 50 accounting and running it under Windows 10 is not possible at this time as some things which I can only read with the Jaws cursor on my computer with Windows 7 just won’t read any more and the touch cursor also does not let me get to that information.

I think it's a case of not understanding the Settings screen. If the first item says "Simpler operation," you're already in advanced mode.

What settings do I need to use so I can access the settings dialog box in Image for windows.

For some reason I cant get Jaws to read to put image for windows in advanced mode?

Any help would be appreciated.

I contacted Terabyte they gave me some information how to get the accessibil check boxes to work,I will paste it here.

When you go in to settings it's the first option and already selected.

Accessible (a) checkboxes is down about 3 (just press A, spacebar, then enter, then go back in to settings so your screen reader will read them - may have to use option in screen reader to read between brackets as the checkboxes will be [X] like this or [ ] like this). There is also a setting to change them to be something else.

Re: Image for windows and Jaws

Steve Matzura

Most screens don't need any special handling. In Settings, select the item in the list of options called "Use accessible check boxes" by pressing the SPACE BAR on the option. Your screenreader's mouse cursor will be required to read this particular options list because it does not use a check box, but puts the letter X in front of checked items. This also is true for the list of options in backup and restore screens for the last screen before the job summary screen. I don't know why Terabyte won't change the way these screens work. I've been on them about it since early editions of version 2.

Yes, press the plus key on the number pad, to turn on virtual cursor, then you can read the settings.

All the best

Hi All,

I am running the final release of JAWS 17, and have the most current Windows 10 updates.

In Google Chrome, when I press the alt key, arrow to settings and press enter, JAWS says “entering forms mode”, JAWS does that click sound to confirm entering forms mode.  But from that moment on, JAWS is silent when I try to access the Chrome settings section.  Any suggestions?

Sincerely,

Timothy Ford

Hi.
I found the problwem.
I had forgotten that my mixer was plugged into the computer.
but when I unplugged the mixer it worked!
This was just a test with the latest build.
I bought windows 10 on a usb stick here in sweden about two months ago.
Do you Think that this will work with that usb stick as well?
If not I'll have to buy Another license.
