Jaws update

Still confused as to how often FS releases updates to Jaws 2018. If I understand it we are over due for a update.

Re: cable and internet service.

Except he means 3 Mbps, Gigabit Internet is 1 Gbps, don’t think 3 Gbps exists yet.

I have a fibre connection with 125 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload, unlimited data usage, and I pay $80 for that, no TV except Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Use Chrome, or Firefox 58 beta.

These two browsers load pages and large web sites much faster for me.

Also, there is an extension for Google Chrome that I know of, that lets you

load just the text of the page pretty much. The Chrome extension is called:

Just Read.

That really helps to open a web site with Just Read, because it loads much

faster, and you have mostly text like you want. I here you. Many times, I do

not want all of the stuff that loads on a web site either. I just want the

article, and that is it. I don’t want to play video, share with all of the

social media and all of that! It is taking me longer and longer to load web

sites myself.

I have a slower connection, so I know what you are feeling. Internet is so

expensive for a fast speed. We have to get cheaper Internet and have more

providers to create compotition. with all of the smaller Cell phone companies

that use the main four companies services, you can get Walmart plans for super

cheap. This is what needs to happen with Internet.

Are you asking about Firefox or Thunderbird, both are made by Mozilla.

If Firefox, then currently your best option is Firefox 52.5.3 ESR (extended support release).

Hi,

You can I believe, install either on either. The only difference between the licences is that JAWS Professional is for commercial use, and JAWS Home is only for home use.

The operating system doesn't matter.

I have a license for JAWS professional and was wondering if I can run that on Windows 10 home or if I need to buy a computer with Windows 10 professional. I know you can't install a home edition of JAWS on a Windows professional machine, but can you go the other way? My laptop I have now came with Windows 7 professional, so I didn't have to worry about compatibility.

In addition, JAWS has the “Flexible Web” feature that you can use to exclude those parts of Web pages on a site that you don’t want to read.

Re: slow web pages, any work arounds

Hi!

In Chrome, press Alt+F to open the virticle Chrome menu.

Up arrow to more tools sub menu, and press the right arrow.

Down arrow to extensions, and press enter.

Now, you are on a web like page of all of your extensions that you have installed to Chrome. If you have not added an extension yet, there will be none in the list.

There is a search edit field to search for extensions.

Type in:

Just Read, and press enter.

A list of results should come up, and Just Read will probably be the first choice. Just press enter on Just read in the choices, and press enter on install.

It will then be added to Chrome.

At this point close Chrome and open it again.

Do the same steps above to get to the extensions page.

Now, if you arrow down, you will have Just Read in the list of added extensions. Make sure that the check box that says enabled says enabled.

If it says disabled, press enter on it to make it say enabled.

To use it, the best way is to do the following.

Bring up a web site, and press the applications key or shift+F10. Down arrow to the choice that says use Just Read to read this page or something like that.

Press enter on that choice, and your page will reloadwith much less stuff on the web site, and mostly text.

When you are done, to go back to the web site, as it was, before you had it load with Just Read, just press escape, and the normal web site will be back with all of the elements on it like videos and stuff.

You will have to press the applications key and enter on that choice that says, Just Read to read the web site everytime you bring up a new web page.

Let us know how this works for you!

Hi Carolyn,

It's of course your choice, but I sit at my various PC's at work all day long and heavily use Excel and Outlook as well as the Internet usually via Chrome or in a few cases still with IE, I use my point of sale software and Sage 50 Accounting, at home I sometimes use iTunes and I use Jaws 2018 both with Windows 7 and Windows 10 and it's just as good or better as Jaws 18 for me. I have already completely removed Jaws 18 from all my machines and except for the same occasional issues I had also with Jaws 18 it's just fine. I would say that with Windows 10 it's actually better.

Subject: Latest unofficial JAWS Is Still Buggy

Dear friends, as some of you are well aware that Freedomscientific has launched a patch of JAWS 2018.1712.54 tries to resolve the issue of not reading message body in windows 10 mail app, but with this update, another problem arises which is more painful then the previous one.

With some of emails JAWS 2018.1712.54 simply freezes windows 10 mail app altogether!

I therefore would like to recommend  to all those who are thinking to update JAWS 2018, should stick themselves to JAWS 18 at least until further notice!

Dear friend, the matter of fact is that whatever I’m sharing with this great mailing list, is my own personal experience not rumor or any kind of horror story.

I have uninstalled my JAWS with shared components and reinstalled it.

Since then, I’m not experiencing any kind of freeze or any kind of app crash as I was experiencing before performing that reinstallation!

Being a member of this group, it is my responsibility to share with you what I experienced not what I have herd !

I sincerely hope that my emails will not be considered as rumor or any kind of horror story or any kind of miss guidance.

Sieghard

I agree with you one thousand percent, Inamuddin. I'm not about to move up. I will be due for SMA, will go on and get it, but skip 2018. I've heard too many horror stories on various lists.

February update?  Is that the update formerly known as the promised January update or am I misinformed?

In any event, glad to have this fix installed.  Mitch

Quite simple it is because Freedomscientific wants to include this fix in its February update.
