function keys are misbehaving
Stan Holdeman
Listers: I am running J 2020 latest update and windows 10.
Starting this morning my function keys are stuttering and repeating and generally not functioning as they should.
I closed and restarted Jaws and shut down and restarted the computer. The problem persists. Any ideas what might be going on?

For what it is worth, if you can get your hands on a used Tripletalk USB it can run on USB power only. It has a rechargeable battery that on mine, died several years ago. I was about to buy the new Tripletalk USb Mini for $200, but Mike, at Axsol solutions, who make and sell these, told me ow to remove the battery and it works great just being powered by the USB cable. Even through a USB hub. Yes, it is the old Doubletalk speech, which isn’t as clear as the Volcalizer voices, but it works fine for basic stuff. I find it a little better for my ears than Eloquence, but voices are so subjective that can be taken with a grain of salt. Good luck whichever direction you take.

To share your computer audio/video and not have Jaws be heard by others, you have to have Jaws on a separate sound device. David mentioned a mixer, Marty mentioned an inexpensive USB audio device, the only other way I know of is to have a hardware USB synthesizer. Those are the most expensive devices of the options mentioned. I have an old TripleTalk USB speech synthesizer that is run on Usb, and if you select it for Jaws, then the sounds from your computer stay on the computer and only the Jaws speech comes through the Tripletalk, and it has its own volume control and earphone jack. HTH,

With your Zoom client open, Tab to the tab list and go to the Home tab. Tab to the Share Options button dropdown and hit Space. Down arrow to the Share Computer Sound check box and hit Space to check it. Now, what ever you hear from your computer will also be recorded and heard by your meeting participants. You may want to do a test to check the levels, as JAWS may be too loud. HTH

Hello all, I am trying to record a Zoom meeting and I need my Jaws voice to be heard. When I play a practice recording, the Jaws voice is really low in the background. I have tried turning my volume up to 100 percent with no success. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Pastor, it sounds like you're referring to what JAWS calls wrap navigation. This is where pressing a single letter quick navigation key wraps from its current location to the top of the page if an element is not found, as in when you press H to move to the next heading and no next heading exists on the page. Open the Settings Center to turn this off. The quickest way to open the Settings Center is to press insert-6, six being the key on the row of numbers and not on the number pad. Enter "wrap" without the quotes and you should find the Wrap Navigation setting.

Keyboard manager, trouble with keystrokes that latch with the spacebar
Mark
I am trying to learn JAWS keyboard manager. When I open it up there's list of script names and keystrokes associated with my browser.
Some scripts sound interesting, like InspectShowFullPageReport. The keystroke is JAWSkey+Space&i&1. I translate the keystroke into JAWS key with the Space key, then the i key then the 1 key. Nothing happens. I have no success with any of the keystrokes that latch with the space bar. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Sometimes you get good help at Microsoft and sometimes you don’t. I had one rep tell me not to turn off my WIFI again. True she was joking but, there is a time and a place for jokes and after spending almost an hour trying to figure it out with a technologically challenged sighted family member who was talking to Microsoft trying to follow her directions, that was not the time to joke.

Hello, I’m using the most recent versions of windows10 and Jaws2020. I used the Chrome and FireFox browsers. I go to onedrive.com and hit enter on sign on. I then enter my email and tab to next. The next screen asks me which account I want to use. I hit enter on the one and it just sits on that location. Two days ago it worked fine as after I pressed enter on the specific account it would then ask for my password. Now That never comes up. I couldn’t find an error message anywhere on the screen. I called Microsoft accessibility. The person was able to get to the password screen without any problem. I asked what she did and she just said press enter on the specific account. She must have done something else as that didn’t work. I then used the jaws cursor and did a double left click on the account. Then the password field came up. I entered the password and pressed enter. I was taken to the address bar and couldn’t get off it. Any thoughts? Kevin

Re: Jaws with Zoom

I got a 6 channel mixer from Amazon, I can’t remember how much, I just remember it was cheap for the options it had. I think it was around $29.95. I have JAWS running through it. So, the zoom calls run through separate speakers, thus no one can hear JAWS save me, through headphones. I have the best of both worlds. Perhaps Marty is correct though, you could get a suitable secondary audio device to run JAWS through, I just like the fact that I can run, 2 headphones and a mic with the normal headphone jacks and 3 USB ports for USB devices. Thus the 6 channel mixer idea.

Cynthia, That will require that you have a separate sound card for JAWS, so you can plug in headphones to hear JAWS without your meeting participants hearing JAWS. You can get a USB sound adaptor that has jacks for a microphone and headphones from Amazon for around $12. You would then set JAWS to play through that and your computer sound would still be played in the normal way.

Robin, Thanks for letting me know what you found. I have a different email address on my IPhone than what is on my laptop . The email address on my laptop is what I have with Amazon. Next time I order, I will change the email address to the one on my IPhone. For some reason when I would forward the Amazon return email to my IPhone it eliminates the QR code graphic. Cheers, Kevin

Kevin, Did you end up resolving the Amazon return issue? I just did an Amazon return, but I selected the option to return the item to Kohl’s. Amazon sent me an email with the QR code in it. The QR code is right below the words “Return Code”, but JAWS did not acknowledge it in any way. I tried moving by graphic with G, but that didn’t work. Arrowing through the lines of the email doesn’t pick it up, but I have enough vision to see it. When I read the same email on my iPhone. Voiceover does not pick up the image if I flick through the lines, but if I run my finger down the email, I heard Voiceover say “Image” just below the “Return Code” and that is the QR code. The return person at Kohl’s just needed to enlarge the QR code ,but I did not need to do anything with the QR code myself.

Hello, I’m using windows10, Outlook 2016 and the most recent version of Jaws2020. When an item is returned to Amazon and email is sent with a QR code. Jaws doesn’t recognize the code. In the past I would print out the email and or forward it to my IPhone. This recent return the code doesn’t show up when I print it. Also it doesn’t appear in the email I forwarded to my IPhone. Is there something in Outlook that could be causing the code to disappear? I should say that when I look at the email on my IPhone, it says image removed by sender. I didn’t remove anything. Any thoughts? Cheers, Kevin
