Hi, Juan. It appears that you do not have a Print Screen key on your laptop. But more than likely, you do. You must use your FN key along with some other key to get the Print Screen key.

Windows Live Mail, focus is lost in message window

Mario

after pressing enter on a message in Windows Live Mail, JAWS 16 is not
able to read the email unless I press numpad / (left click) to gain
focus and sometimes control+home to start reading from the top.
I should not have to left click and/or control+home just to read an
email. this gets annoying if you have more than 40 to check out.
has anyone experienced this, and is there ( or does anyone know of) a
fix for this issue? maximizing does not help clear up the problem.

I use Anyburn. It is free and you can put your files into the list very easily. Simply go to the file you want and copy it to your clipboard and then paste it in the list box in the program. I have not had a failure yet. This program is very versatile, for ripping, burning, creating startup disks, making disk images and more. The format is easily navigated.

Re: burning cd's with jaws

Steve Matzura

Confusing question, confusing answer. Let's start over.

If you have a computer built after, say, 2000, you are guaranteed to have a CD/DVD drive in your machine that can write as well as read CD's and DVD's. There are some laptops, though, that don't come with this hardware in order to save space, so if you have one of those, yes, you'll need to buy something external that you will connect to a USB port on said machine.

Now, for the software, you can use Windows Media Player to write a compact disc in a format the average CD player will play, and you can use Windows itself to write a compact disc in what's called the ISO 9660 format with files and folders that your computer can read. You can also use third-party software programs such as CD Burner XP (my particular favorite) which can write both kinds of disks, negating the need for Windows Media Player, which many people, including yours truly, don't like, and think is on the clunky-klugey side.

Hope this helps.

I use an application which captures audio from the Internet. I can use either Speech On Demand or Speech Mute, and won’t get JAWS in the captured audio. So there are other uses for these two options than with a braille display.

Speech on demand only makes sense if you use a braille display (at least as far as I am concerned).

Yes, Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by S toggles between speech on demand and full speech.

If you want the old behaviour back where this keystroke toggles between Speech and Mute you have to first toggle from full speech to speech on demand.

Now press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+S and Jaws will say “Speech offset to Speech Mute”.

If you now press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by S it will toggle between full speech and mute.

In order to go back to Speech on Demand you have to Mute Speech, then again press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+S.

Jaws will say “Speech offset to speech on demand”.

If you try the Jaws Key+Spacebar with Shift+S when you are in full speech mode Jaws will say “not available in full speech mode”.

After downloading and installing Jaws  a couple of days ago without a problem, I have now encounted one.

Well, maybe I am doing something incorrectly.

Trying out the new feature, Speech on Demand by pressing Jaws, spacebar s  gives a very different result from that as demonstrated in the December FS Podcast. When Jonathan used the above key combination his system said either “Speech on Demand” or “Full Speech”. My system says “Speech on” or “Speech off” and that is all.

With the speech off none of the reading keys like insert up arrow says anything.

As this feature was not tried prior to the recent update, it is not known whether it has ever worked.

Could someone try this featureand see what results are   obtained?

Hi Tom,

What you might want to try is downloading the Jaws update file again.  They were having a problem with downloaded updates , & they did get the problem figured out.  Maybe you got a bad download.  I don't know if I would do a repair, but uninstalling this build, & reinstalling.  With these later versions of Jaws it seems like , I'm speaking personally of course, that repairs haven't worked out, & I've started reinstalling rather than repairing.  If you decide to go the reinstall route, make sure to keep your settings & shared components

Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

Hi Tom,

To add to what Sieghard has stated, you can go into the Settings Center & adjust options under the Speech Options heading.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi,

Using W10 latest Home 64 bit and Jaws 2018.1802.78

Thanks

Tom

Hi Richard,

That is interesting, that while you have a similar setup to mine, your Speech on Demand is working correctly.

I never thought to try Speech on Demand prior to last week’s update so maybe it has never worked.

The command, Jaws spacebar  shift s has been tried but all I receive is the following:

Unknown script call to, Speech on Demand toggle

Then it goes on to spell Speech on Demand toggle  before exiting.

It appears that a script may be missing.
