My Toshiba laptop did that recently after an update.
When it came up, I hit alt+f4 to get out of it.
After about two or three times of it coming up, it simply stopped.
I have no idea why.

Not helpful I know. But, just an empathetic note on the frustrations of computers.

Tom,

I have no braille display set up, I’m running the same version as you, and I get the Speech On Demand and Full Speech toggle with insert+space bar followed by s.

Have you tried it with the shift+s to see if you get different results?

I’m using Vocalizer Tom as my voice.

I’m running Win 10 64 home.

Speech on demand only makes sense if you use a braille display (at least as far as I am concerned).

Yes, Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by S toggles between speech on demand and full speech.

If you want the old behaviour back where this keystroke toggles between Speech and Mute you have to first toggle from full speech to speech on demand.

Now press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+S and Jaws will say “Speech offset to Speech Mute”.

If you now press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by S it will toggle between full speech and mute.

In order to go back to Speech on Demand you have to Mute Speech, then again press Jaws Key+Spacebar followed by Shift+S.

Jaws will say “Speech offset to speech on demand”.

If you try the Jaws Key+Spacebar with Shift+S when you are in full speech mode Jaws will say “not available in full speech mode”.

Sieghard

After downloading and installing Jaws  a couple of days ago without a problem, I have now encounted one.

Well, maybe I am doing something incorrectly.

Trying out the new feature, Speech on Demand by pressing Jaws, spacebar s  gives a very different result from that as demonstrated in the December FS Podcast. When Jonathan used the above key combination his system said either “Speech on Demand” or “Full Speech”. My system says “Speech on” or “Speech off” and that is all.

With the speech off none of the reading keys like insert up arrow says anything.

As this feature was not tried prior to the recent update, it is not known whether it has ever worked.

Could someone try this featureand see what results are   obtained?

Thanks

Tom

Subject: speech on demand

Hi,

Using W10 latest Home 64 bit and Jaws 2018.1802.78

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

When pressing the Jaws key & spacebar, then, S, you'll hear, Speech on Demand.

Press, Jaws key & spacebar, then, S, again, & you'll hear Full speech.

As a total rookie to this I'm assuming the keystroke, Jaws key, & spacebar, then, S, is a toggle between the 2 options.
Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

I prefer the computer, and have no problem navigating and using their site. But I think it's just a personal preference. The app is fine, too. I have them both.

I would like to buy from Wal-Mart. Which is more Jaws friendly, the windows web site or the iPhone app?

Thanks for your answers.

They’re both accessible. It comes down to what you feel more comfortable with. The iOS app is easy to use.

I did a lot of purchasing on their site a couple of years ago. The site was underpowered and painful to navigate because of it. I sometimes had to give up and try again at a less active time. It is probable that the browser and Jaws may have contributed to some of my problems.

I took a look last night and it seems to be much better. Haven't tried the app.

Yes, talk about aps, etc. is relevant, but not essays about nostalgia about announcers, etc.

I’ll always give Ron Santo big time kudos for being one of the best third base players of his time. Plus, if you listened to when he reminisced about playing back in the day; playing third base and catching high speed line drive bullets; all while in the middle of a low blood sugar moment! Now that’s Baseball in spades and talk about tough!

I say the best I have ever heard was the Pat Hughes and Ron Santo team.  Poor Ronnie was so gullible at times and Pat knew just how to get him going or to settle him down if he got too worked up.

Well, I have to admit, John Miller is excellent.

I'm not sure he is better than Rick Rizzswith the Mariners, but I might say they are equal and now the best in baseball since Vin Scully retired.
