Hi,

I'm not aware of any accessible game engines , but I have recently started coding audio games, so would  be really interested if you do find anything please do keep me up to date. I currently use the blast bay tool kit  (or BGT as its called for short) you mentioned, but I'm not sure what you mean by when you tried to run a script you got an error, which script did you try and run ? was it something you wrote yourself  or was it someone else's script you were trying to run? Either way it doesn't sound like an error with BGT , but more a problem with the script you were trying to run. the best thing to do is open the BGT help file, in here there is an introduction, read this first, then the language tutorial , this will teach you how to write and run your first ever script, and then teaches you to write more complex scripts and eventually walks you through writing  your first audio games. I actually hadn't done any coding before this and found it a really good tutorial that explains everything really well. Let me know if you need any further help with BGT and if I can I will be happy to help, but do please keep me up to date if you do find an accessible game engine.

Hi. looking fo an accessible game engine. Looking at enrolling in a game programming and 3d course with my school. My lectuer is going to have to rebuild the course and learning materials for me, and any future blind people. Tried unity, unreal game engine, and totally inaccessible. So does any one know of an accessible game engine? Thanks. Ps: did try the blast bay studios tool kit, but when I installed and then ran the scripts, kept giving me an error. A scripting language, but does have limitations, like no 2 d and 3d and audio, database, multimedia. So have tried searching, and now. Wondering, if any one has come up with one. I know the accessible games firms like el works, dracanous, have their own game engines and would not let outsiders download or purchase their engines. So any other ideas, or where to find it. Thanks. And the other game engines, just totally uinstalled and using a tool called revouinstaller. So, it gets rid of the left over files as well as the application.

Thanks.

Hi Brian,

I only use the word, Screen, because as someone that is totally blind I have to tab to get to that dialogue to uncheck the Avast install checkbox.  Since I can't tell where the dialogue is, I couldn't tell people that can't see it, that it's on the same screen, when many blind users believe that it might be a different screen per say when tabbing.  Not everyone knows the correct computer lingo, me being 1 of them!  LOL

And yes, Unchecky does not uncheck this Avast checkbox.  I run Unchecky on all our computers, & it hasn't unchecked that checkbox on any of them.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Mike,

Your warning is quite timely.   That being said, the Avast install option is not on a separate screen or pop-up but is at the bottom of the very first screen of the CCleaner install process and it is static.   It should remain there until you hit the next button and, as you say, unless you want Avast installed on your system you must be sure to uncheck that box first.

Although I routinely recommend Unchecky they have still not caught up with whatever mechanism is being used to present this offer, since they don't automatically uncheck it.   I anticipate this will change, but am not certain when.  I have reported this issue with missing this particular checkbox to the developers of Unchecky.

I don’t have a solution, but perhaps contacting AbleGamers would be helpful:

http://www.ablegamers.org/

If you’re interested in working on educational applications (e.g., interactive simulations), rather than games as such, then the PhET Project at the University of Colorado Boulder has developed ways of building accessible interactive science simulations, using WebGL or SVG for the graphics, and a parallel, off-screen HTML version to support screen reader access.

https://phet.colorado.edu/

(source code available from GitHub).

PS: you’re bringing back enjoyable memories of visiting Adelaide, which was wonderful – except for the tap water, of course. I’m from Melbourne, though currently not living there.

Using Jaws, Tip To Stop Avast From Installing With CCleaner Update or Install

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

First this is for Jaws users, & I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

When you're installing or updating CCleaner, after pressing enter on the Run button of the executable, here's where you need to be real careful!
1. After the installer staarts you want to  tab, & you should come to a screen that says, Add security to your CCleaner installation.  This is the screen that has the Avast checkbox checked, & it needs to be unchecked.
No matter what, don't press enter / spacebar on any button until you get this Avast option unchecked.
Depending on your computer settings & other variables you might hear more of this message like:
CCleaner recommends Avast Free Antivirus
Yes, I want to install Avast Free Antivirus By installing this application, you agree to Avast End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy
2. This screen doesn't stay there very long, so if you don't hear Jaws report a checkbox as being checked at the above mentioned screen, press the letter, X, & you should go to the, Yes, checkbox, which is checked.  Press the spacebar to uncheck this box & now you can continue tabbing to the Install or Customize button to continue updating or installing.

It's possible you won't, get the, Add security to your CCleaner installation, screen, & if you don't spacebar the, Customize, button, & tab to see if you find it in this screen.  If you don't find it at all, cancel / close the installer.  Try running the installer again, & look for the screen again.  I've had various experiences attempting to install / updating CCleaner on our 4 computers, & have run into all the situations mentioned, but eventually I did find, & uncheck that Avast install checkbox.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Although support for Microsoft Edge in JAWS has improved, you may still find it best to change the default browser. I would recommend installing Google Chrome or Firefox and switching the default browser to either of them.

First, Go into Word options. Arrow down to Advanced. Tab to the check box which will allow documents to open in draft mode, and check it.

Then, to get into draft mode, Open Word. Press the F6 key twice. Tab to the Draft Mode check box and check it. Then documents will open in Draft Mode.

The easiest way to fix it is to go to the status bar with f6, and change the view to draft.  It won't affect your printed document, but it makes the page transition go smoothly.  Failing that, while on the status bar tinker with the zoom setting.  Either way, you should be in business.

Tim is right, and Alt+I to ignore. Like he says, then if you
want, we can tell you the other key commands left, but those
two will serve yoyu well.

Hi Jim,

I am still using Outlook 2010, so my suggestion may not
help.

Try the keyboard shortcuts instead of the tab key. Most of
those field and options do have a shortcut. For example,
Alt+ c accepts the first recommended option, alt +g accepts
the "error" without changing the spelling. There are of
course more shortcuts, but this gives you a couple of the
most commonly used shortcuts. If they help, then we can
give you the rest of the list.

If this does not help, then I have no idea. I am running
the latest Windows 10, JAWS 17, and I notice occasional
slowdowns, moments of silence; this all started in recent
years, and I suspect it is either the newer Windows, JAWS,
or both.

Good luck,

Tim Ford

Heya folks,

For many versions of Jaws and Outlook 2010 spell check every
now and then, say 5 out of 10 times Jaws and Outlook 2010
spell check has a delay period when I tab thru its options.
Its never been fixed in any new versions of Jaws as I am now
running latest Jaws 2018 on a windows 7, 64 home PC, does
anybody else get this delay? And is there a work around?

This issue stops me using the spell checker alltogether so
any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jim
