Re: Converting audible audio books from pc to sd card

Hi Val,

Ah, yep not having a smart phone will definitely make downloading the app difficult haha. I used to have a program for converting audible books, but I don't have it any more and can't remember the name or where I got it, so I'm afraid I'm not much help on that front. Regarding the drive thing, it actually wasn't me that posted that, I saw the post the person sent you , I think it was regarding solid state drives, but it definitely wasn't me that sent it. But what they are talking about is replacing your hard drive, this would mean actually opening up your PC and physically removing the internal drive and replacing it with a solid state drive. I'm almost sure this would void any warranty you have on your lap top, plus it’s a pretty difficult procedure to do , definitely not something I'd try myself. You may find you already have a solid state drive anyway, as I think newer laptops often do, but I have no idea how you check this. Again sorry I couldn't be more help on that either.

Subject: Jaws does not speak the bottom of the screen

Hi all,

I just plugged in a new screen to my laptop. This screen seems quite larger than the laptop’s embedded screen.

In order to accommodate this, windows adjusted its screen resolution. Since Jaws became really sluggish, I decided to end it and relaunch it. The screen reader was a little bit more responsive but since it was not as good as before I plugged in the new screen, I decided to reboot the computer.

After restarting, jaws is nearly as responsive as before, except for the few bottom lines of the screen. Although it speaks the icons of the taskbar while I navigate through it, it does not braille them like it did before. And, in my favorite text editor, a few lines of text at the bottom of the screen are simply said as “blank”. In order to know what these lines contain, I need to scroll down a little bit and go back with the up arrow for Jaws to really speak their content. A problem for the end of the document.

Did anyone else have such a problem please?

BTW, the computer is powered by Windows 7 64-bit Entreprise Edition SP1 and Jaws version is 2018.1802.78 ILM.

Many thanks in advance for any advice. Have a nice day. Chris D

Audible books are protected and while you may find certain
applications
which can convert them to MP3 this is not easily done and at best a
very
slow progress. I used to have an app and it converted in little
more than
real time which means it took hours and hours to convert a single

I'm trying this program called "Media Info", but unfortunately it doesn't display much in regards to headers, just the file name and the file size. Also, it doesn't seem to be very accessible to screen readers like JAWS. Is there a screenreader accessible alternative? Here is the file I'm trying to fix.

Audible is certainly very proprietary and won't allow for easy duplication for sure.

Audible books are protected and while you may find certain applications
which can convert them to MP3 this is not easily done and at best a very
slow progress. I used to have an app and it converted in little more than
real time which means it took hours and hours to convert a single book.

Hi!

Have done something really idiotic, and downloaded the app instead of the
audoble software. Also, didn't register through audoble, but used my amazon
account. now i can only stream them or use elexa. Can't now convert them to
mp3 or sd.

What an idiot i am!

Don't know how to get out of this one!

Hi Val,

If what you want to do is just to move the books from the computer's
harddrive to either an external drive or an sd card, there is no
"conversion" necessary. Just locate the audible download folder on
your computer. Using windows explorer, do a  copy and paste to copy
the book files to wherever you want to put them. The names of the book
files are pretty self-explanatory from what I remember though it's
been quite a while since I did this with my own audible titles.

I hope this helps.

I also have a USB cd drive, which can copy books on to mp3 cd discs.

Thanks.

You would still have to convert the file to copy it on to sd card, and apparently as everyone seems to be saying on the forum, it isn't easy. This is what i was hoping to do.

Fixing .wav files

Annabelle Susan Morison

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I wonder, is there a way that someone blind like me can fix a .wav file to make it playable again? I have this .wav file that I created in 2015, using Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition, but it won't open in any media player. When I import it as raw data in Audacity, all I get is really loud static. I'm trying this program called "Media Info", but unfortunately it doesn't display much in regards to headers, just the file name and the file size. Also, it doesn't seem to be very accessible to screen readers like JAWS. Is there a screenreader accessible alternative? Here is the file I'm trying to fix.

Hi!

Can you download them directly to the victor?  Didn't notice that mentioned on audoble's site.
