I’m ok with the new os never afraid of change.  Just trying to figure out how to navigate and once I get all the differences sorted out it will be fine.  I began working on computers in the dos days.  Before that I did a bit on the radio shack trs80 computers where the storage device was a cassette.  In college I programmed in fortran on a burrows main frame.  Input was punch cards.

Yes, i'm afraid we will have to get used to it!

That wasn't why i sent the message, it was to settle a slight disagreement my friend and i had about windows 7 and jaws 2018.

I think also, its the unknown till we get used to it.

You might have a touch pad right under the keys that you might be hitting accidentally.  It needs to be turned off.  For your own sanity, the sooner you get an external keyboard, probably the better.

Press the Windows key, and you are in a search box. Tab once, and you will hear mike. If you enter there, you can ask Cortana a question, just like asking SIRI.

If you tab past the mike, you are in a list. The power button is there, and your account button to open your Microsoft account. Tab again, and you are on your list of apps and programs. Now, you can down arrow through all of your programs. Tab past that, and you are on your app tiles. You can use all arrow keys to go from tile to tile, just like on a phone. Instead of all of that, though, you can just type the program or app you want to bring up in the search edit box.

For example, type:

Notepad in the search edit box, and you will hear Notepad as one of your choices. Just press enter, and Notepad will open. It is that simple to find a program and open it in the search area that is in Windows 7 as well. I have a lot of tutorials on using Windows 10, if you would like them. Re: Windows 10, settings opens when computer started

I don't think that is a VFO/Jaws issue. If Narrator settings come up at startup you should tab around because I'm pretty sure there is a checkbox where you can disable that.
My Windows 10 laptop does not open Settings when it comes up. I think those who have that issue should try and give Microsoft Accessibility a call and see if they can fix that.

Custom Labels

Joe DiNero

Good Morning Folks

I have never used the custom lables feature of JAWS but have a webpage where it maybe useful for me.

So to give you background I am the Financial Secretary for a local chapter of an organization with nearly 1000 members where I collect annual dues we have an online billing nd recording  website which is semi accessible . Where I would record dues there are edit boxes to enter amount of payment and check number that are not labeled. I have memorized how to navigate the page however every once in a while I post to the wrong account as I type faster than my brain keeps up. The names are in a table and the paid amount edit boxes are in a column in said table and the same to record the check number. So my 2 questions are as follows. First if I put a custom label in the top edit box of the column is there a way to replicate it down that column? Second once dues are paid the names come off the list for the year does anyone know if the labels will hold when I bill out for next year? Just trying to determine if this is worth the effort or just stick with what I am doing.

Thanks

Joe

This is a known issue with JAWS 18, and JAWS 2018 latest versions. Microsoft has changed the interface. JAWS says they will fix it in the February 2018 update to JAWS 2018.

I get the narrator settings coming up at boot up, and I just press alt F4 on it.
I think that VFO should work with Microsoft to fix this problem.

jaws and dragon dictate

mike mcglashon

Hi guys:

Win 10 jaws 2018 and dragon dictate prof legal v15 and j-dictate scripts from the mozen guy;

Hi guys:

I very recently purchased dragon dictate legal v15 and also the j-dictate scripts;

I like the thing very much except for one thing;

Many times, when I turn on the mic with alt-windows-f11,

The microphone just turns itself on and off continuously;

Thereby making the ding noise to turn it on and the close door noise to close;

So therefore I continuously hear the thing dinging and closing the door repeatedly;

Does anyone know about this phenomenon?

I ask here simply because I must rule out that it is a j-dictate issue connection with jaws;

Does anyone have experience with this?

Please advise further.

Hi all!

First of all, you can do even more in Win10 than you could in Windows 7, but you have to know what to do.

Here is how you navigate the start area in Win10.

Press the Windows key, and you are in a search box. Tab once, and you will hear mike.

( IPRESSED THE WINDOWS KEY AND THEN TAB AND HEAR NOTHING.  I press enter and hear Cortana but don’t know what keys to press when she says she needs my permission to help.

If you enter there, you can ask Cortana a question, just like asking SIRI.

If you tab past the mike, you are in a list. The power button is there, and your account button to open your Microsoft account.

When I tab passed the mic nothing is spoken

Tab again, and you are on your list of apps and programs.

When I tab I get most used icons but arrowing through the list I hear nothing at all.

Now, you can down arrow through all of your programs. Tab past that, and you are on your app tiles. You can use all arrow keys to go from tile to tile, just like on a phone.

Tabs don’t speak anything here for me either.  Possibly I have something set up wrong but can’t figure out what.

Windows 10 is different, but you can do everything you did in Windows 7, you just have to do it differently.

To summarize things keystrokes don’t work like David says they do for me.  Like I said, Probably an issue on my end.  Yes I would very much like the tutorials because I am in bad need of assistance.
