Tim Ford

Hello All,

One of my favorite video streaming sites suddenly changed a few months ago.  Before the sudden change, videos would start automatically, then suddenly they would not.  I had Microsoft’s nice accessibility office remote in to my computer.  The guy was able to immediately spot and click the play button, but I could not figure out where the button was, so I know the cause, but not how to solve it.

Is there a way for Microsoft’s remote session person to label the button so JAWS will let me work that button?  Or, is this something that can be done only by a sighted person sitting at my computer?  In either case, how would they mark/label the button?

Mike,

Using the same bill with the speak dollars checked, using Tom vocalizer Premium, mine does the same as Ron’s.

Which Say all setting are you talking about?

Ron,
I think you may have found a bug.
Under Number and Date processing in Jaws settings center, there is a checkbox for Say Dollar.  If checked, it is supposed to do what you want.
But for me, checked or unchecked it says the same thing.
The text after  that checkbox is:
When selected, numbers preceded by a dollar sign are read using the dollars and cents format. For example, $9.95 is read as nine dollars and ninety five cents. To read monetary values less than a dollar, a zero is required to represent dollars. For example, $0.02 is read as two cents.

Good morning to all, from Ron Kolesar.
Noticed the following when speaking dollar signs.
For some weird reason it's saying dollar and the figures, instead of saying the figures then the word dollars.
For example, for $2.00 it will say dollar two instead of two dollars.
How can we fix this?
Many thanks.

no, you can keep both versions if you want. it should ask you if you want to import the settings from the previous version, which you can say no to.
each version is installed in seperat folders
you may have to change the desktop short cut keys to start each version.
most of the time the new installation will not assign the control alt j keys to the new desktop icon.

Due to the problems I have been experiencing, I have decided to upgrade Jaws to Jaws 20.

Do I need to remove the former version before loading the new version – I don’t want to import the current issues I am experiencing.

There is a table, in the middle of this webpage:  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/coronavirus-maps.html?action=click&pgtype=Article&state=default&module=styln-coronavirus&variant=show&region=TOP_BANNER&context=storyline_menu

That is a by-country table of number of cases and deaths, and the table can be expanded if you wish to look at countries not particularly hard-hit at this time.  The last column is a graphic showing relative number of new cases by week since the end of January through today, and I imagine that range is constantly shifting, and given the amount of information that can be packed into said graphic I am doubting that there is alt-text that runs through each on a week-by-week basis.

I'm not finding this in the February update. I haven't applied the March
update yet. I'll test it when I do, as that would be an easy way to find
the source of the problem.
