Re: Openbook and Jaws one last time

Richard Turner

Given the fact that they have done absolutely nothing with OpenBook development in at least 3 years, and more like 5, if anyone wants to spend a thousand dollars on it, more power to them.

While it is a bit tedious, I can get as good, and possibly, better results with the free document scanning from Seeing AI on my iPhone.

It is simply more convenient to be able to scan multiple pages and save them on a computer.
Though, as I have said, that no longer works on my machine.

I think I will drop this topic now since we are getting into the area of just expressing our differences and not contributing to any solutions for anyone.

Why would VFO incorporate all of the features of Open Book into JAWS, when
they can make more money selling each program separately? Do you think
anyone would spend $2000 for JAWS if it incorporated all of Open Books's
features? Not likely. VFO has never been known for its altruism, and
anyone who thinks that they will simply merge Open Book into JAWS and keep
the price of JAWS at $1000 is living in a dream world. Besides, many JAWS
users have no use for Open Book or even basic OCR capability, so why should
they be forced to pay extra for features they don't want or need?

Hello,
I may have gotten very confused with the discussion recently about
conflicts with FreedomScientific OCR 64 and OpenBook 9.0.1757.403.

I thought there was an issue with that FS OCR 64 bit file being present
when Openbook was installed causing a problem.

So, since I had some time today, I removed that file and attempted to
install OpenBook again.
I got the error that a file was missing so Openbook couldn't be
installed. You guessed it, the FS OCR64 file has to be there.

Was it the OCR 32 that caused the problem or am I just too dense to get
this?

In any case, before I give up finally on Openbook, any sage advice would
be appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

I learned a long time ago not to try and predict what a software company might do.

The Pearl Camera was designed to work with Openbook.

It also works with Jaws Convenient OCR, but as far as I know, it doesn’t work with any non-FreedomScientific software.

I don’t own one, so I truly have no idea.

I will be taking an introductory course in SQL next term.  Oracle products have traditionally been use with screen readers, so I am reaching out for your thoughts about using JAWS with database applications.

I will provide further thoughts as this conversation develops, but for now I am not finding much help using search terms like accessibility, screen readers, Oracle, or SQL on the Internet.

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Which version of jaws for windows 10?

Mario

however, you can still have a backup version (for those times when 2018
decides to not to cooperate) as far back as version 16. you can also
have NVDA for a backup.

Have to remember you don't buy the software just the right to use it as long as it is available. If a company decides to discontinue a product they owe you nothing.

I think you need at least jaws 16 for it to work. I am not sure it will work with does 15.
