Well am unable to navigate around in the program like before as all that pops up is the menus like f for file, e for edit and v for view etc. And nothing else works.

When trying to request money, I was not able to put the amount in on the page after I pulled up their e-mail.

It was as if the edit fields weren't labeled.

I was using jaws 2019 and I tried 2018.

Has anyone had that trouble, and is their a solution?

The scripts aren’t needed or anything, they just help a bit. Actually I’m sure the JAWS 2021 ones are better and may supercede Doug lee’s entirely, but I have an older JAWS version so am no doubt missing out on Freedom Scientific’s bells ‘n’ whistles.

You should be able to use Narrator all the way up to the point at which you can start Microsoft Edge and download JAWS.

well, that's why I call a good screen reader, more than one single way to do the same although it may represent, to some degree, a unique way to help some users to skim a text quickly but with full meaningful sentences. You may forget this, but not only native English speaking users require a screen reader, and for EFL and ESL students, this feature represents a valuable tool. Of course, as a native Spanish speaker, I do what you guys do when I go through a text, in Spanish but, try it on a language different than yours and we talk later!

I was on the Openbook beta team, and since too many years ago to count, nothing has been said about Openbook even to the beta team.
It would be nice to get a definitive statement from Vispero about this, but I guess so long as they can still sell a $1000 OCR package to people, they will even though the only functionality I can find in it that isn't in other either mobile phone apps or the Jaws OCR is the ability to scan facing pages of a book and have them split into two pages automatically.

FS has not updated Open book for many years and since OCR is built in to Jaws I don't think Open Book will ever be updated.

Try quitting Jaws and running NVDA if you have it. This should force Jarte into Screenreader mode. I hope that this sticks for the next time you use Jarte with Jaws.

I believe you might be correct.  Other than a 2018 window dressing with a
few languages added they seem to have abandoned the product.  I find that
even mobile scanning on my phone has about as good OCR.  I   look for the
OCR component to become a full function of JAWS.

Ah, yes, I see the problem. From the Setting Center type "edit" and toggle the setting for enhanced edit mode. That should definitely fix the problem.

Hi all,

Actually, I have never used the JAWS skim read because it reads either the first full sentence of every paragraph or first full line. I want to read just enough of a paragraph to get a sense of it and then move on. That does not always require reading a full sentence or line. Just the first four or five words might be enough. And if speed is the objective, and it is with skim reading, I don’t need to hear any more than what I need to hear. So you can do this in a couple of very quick and easy ways. First, hold down Control and keep it held down. Then press down arrow just enough to hear what you want to hear at the beginning of a paragraph, then hit down arrow again, and so on.

Or you can put JAWS in Quick keys mode with Insert Z and then just press P to jump to the next paragraph, P again and so on. Much more efficient than JAWS skim read.
