Re: speaking passwords

Jeremy <jeremy.richards7@...>

In my experience, I can usually tell when I have incorrectly entered my password, so I simply select all, delete, and type the password once again. I don't have to leave the edit field at all so its all incredibly easy to fix typing errors in a password field.

As for password managers, there's several of them, so LastPass isn't your only option. I really like KeePass and have been using it for about 8 years problem-free. KeePass has never failed me.

Most of the time, its user error or the user's lack of experience with a software product which can explain problems with an application.

People are under the misconception that if you can hear your password as you
type it, you’ll somehow magically be a better typist or make less typos in this
particular field. Yeah. No . . . You’ll at best only hear yourself make a typo
or more likely second guess what you typed.

This really is much ado about nothing. We make typos. Sighted folks make typos.
This won’t be some sort of magic bullet.

And again, folks should be using some sort of password manager anyway.

Yeah well... Don't know what to tell you. Can't recall the last time if at all I've had an issue with 1Password forgetting a password. Not saying it hasn’t' happened or that it's possible, but considering the sheer number of times I log into God knows how many sites and services a day be it on either one of my computers or iPhone, if there's a random hiccup every so often, then I can't say it would be enough to get my undies all in a bunch. And if it's that much of an issue, then maybe consider switching products. Not the method per say. Otherwise, good luck on not getting hacked or a service's user info compromised or losing your list of saved passwords etc. Sure, there's always going to be an exception to the rule or random outlier scenario, but enough to change a fundamental security function/behavior? I'm not holding my breath.
Funny that. I don't even know my Kaiser PW. Why? Because I use a password manager. I find it more surprising that a major service like that still uses snail mail for a password reset type of deal. I mean, who is still doing that? And being locked out of your online account isnt' the same as being locked out of your account/info.
Anyway . . . all this really is like drowning in a glass of water.

Re: What backup software can we use with jaws?

Jeremy <jeremy.richards7@...>

That much data will likely cost you quite a bit of cash to upload to cloud storage such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Carbonite, etc., not to mention the amount of time it will take to upload the information. If you're not constantly modifying the data, then the previous cloud storage solutions will not be all that useful to you. I suggest purchasing external hard drives. I have always purchased Western Digital Black or Seagate drives and never had a problem. For data backup you will not want to skimp on quality. :) Take a look at the following drive:

It includes a lot of audio music beds and stuff, not for distrobution, just for safe keeping. Any ideas for a good solution for this. I've got about 8 TB worth of stuff. I know, not an easy task.

Hi David,

I also received the warning “Windows protected  your PC” or something like that. You can simply tab to “More Info”, activate that and then tab to “Install anyways”, after that the installation proceeds normally.

I'd like to talk to doug lee concerning what I experienced when trying to download the jaws scripts for audible.  What happened when I downloaded the jaws scripts for audible was that I tried to install them and I got a message saying that the jaws scripts were blocked by windowsdefender.  I have jaws2018 on my system as a demo.  That is why I didn't install the jaws scripts for youtube.

Re: What backup software can we use with jaws?

Quite easy if you are willing to spend a few hundred Dollars. You can simply go out and buy two 4Tb external hard drives or, if you spend more money, you can buy a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. You also need to put hard drives into this, most NAS devices are 2 or 4 disk units (at least those for personal and small business use) and you can easily get 8 Tb or 10 Tb NaS drives, but they are not cheap, on something like this you would probably spend $1,500 or up.
If you want just external USB 3.0 drives you can look at something like this, it is $137.99 on Amazon Canada, probably costs $100 or $120 US in the States:

Seagate Backup Plus 4TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0, Black (STDR4000100)
https://www.amazon.ca/Seagate-Backup-Portable-External-STDR4000100/dp/B00ZTRXFBA

You can also get larger backup hard drives from Seagate which include a USB hub (the large ones with 8Tb and 10Tb all seem to have the hub), here is the 8Tb model on Amazon Canada, it is $209.99 if you jump to the 10Tb model it goes up a lot to $389.99 so you can almost buy two 8Tb models for 1 10Tb model:
https://www.amazon.ca/Seagate-External-Desktop-Storage-STEL8000100/dp/B01HD6ZLQ6?th=1

All of this is also available from Best Buy, Staples and other stores and of course companies like Western Digital also make such drives. Western Digital, for example, makes the "MyBook" series of external drives which come in 3Tb, 4Tb, 6Tb, 8Tb and 10Tb. Here is the link on Western Digital's site, sorry, don't have time to look all fo this up on Amazon or Best Buy, it's an easy thing to do however if you know what to search for, writing this email with all the links took me 5 minutes:
https://www.wdc.com/products/external-storage/my-book-new.html

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hey guys. So speaking of backup software, got something i wanna do.
I ahve a feeling it won't be easy.
I do a lot of work with audio and have several tb of audio, including audio projects that i can't lose. Looking for a good place to put them for safe keeping. It includes a lot of audio music beds and stuff, not for distrobution, just for safe keeping. Any ideas for a good solution for this. I've got about 8 TB worth of stuff. I know, not an easy task.

Re: Focus 14 - Grade 2 braille

Hi Jeremy,

I think you would do this through the Jaws Setting screen on your PC, at
least that's how I do it. There are braille options, and you should be able
to change it there.

Hi all,

For those of you that own a Focus 14 5th Gen braille display, how can one
modify the output of the main settings menus so they show in grade 2
braille?

As is, when ai navigate through the settings such as clock, connections,
repeat, calendar, etc., they are listed in grade 1 braille. I'd like to
change the braille output to grade 2 or preferably UEB.

Thanks,

JR
