John,

I pasted your example into Word 2016 and this is what Jaws read to me.

18 Misspelled‑ u.s.c. § 3581©(1(A)( Misspelled‑ i). It reads instead  of (c), "copywrite. How do I get rid of this and just allow the
section c to read to me?

In Word, I always turn off most of the autoformat items.

I wonder if that is what is doing this?

Hi Ed,

Yes, I did install the one from the Microsoft store.

I am just using it for ringtones as sieghard said.

When I looked up how to actually do this, I was told from the web site, that I needed the latest version.

Anyway, do you recommend that I uninstall the Microsoft store one and use the actual desktop?

If so, I will try it, and let you know.

Morning John,

See if the note below will help.

Easy way: whenever you do this and JAWS says "copyright", press Backspace once. When you press the right parenth key, Word changes what you've typed into
the copyright symbol and JAWS echoes this. pressing Backspace immediately undoes the change.

More long-winded way: Press Alt, F, T to open the Options dialogue.

DownArrow to Proofing

Tab to AutoCorrect Options and press Enter to open the AutoCorrect dialogue

You should be in an edit area. Type (c), that's left parenth c right parenth

Tab to the Delete button and press it

OK out of both dialogues

You should find now typing (c) doesn't give you a copyright symbol at all.

Hope that helps,

Steve

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

Hi All,

Has anyone tried using Docusign recently with JAWS, or NVDA for that matter? We had used it about 3 years ago when selling a house and found it quite accessible. However, today when we tried to use it again, it was unuseable. For example, if you hit the letter B to navigate to the next button to sign, and then hit enter or spacebar, no signature was applied. Focus was thrown either to somewhere else in the document or completely into a different open window. We found similar results with NVDA.

Has anyone had success using Docusign lately, and if so, with which screen reader and browser? We were using Chrome.

I finally ended up trying it on my iPhone, and did have better luck there.

Thanks,
Pam

Also, what exactly do you want to accomplish with iTunes? I assume if you want to sync music to your phone you need it, but since I have an Apple Music subscription and rarely listen to music on my iPhone anyways I find I really only ever need iTunes to sync or manage ringtones. If I don't want to add ringtones I never use iTunes any more at all.

moderated Re: Permanently activating Jaws screen shade

Hi Paul,

There is a difference between turning on the screen curtain on an iPhone and saving battery. A few things are involved here:

1. If you have an iPhone like the iPhone X, XS/XS Max or 11S/11S Max which have OLEd screens and not LCD screens, turning on screen curtain may in fact save a little bit of battery because OLED screens do not require backlighting like LCD screens.

2. In theory if you have an LCD screen model like the iPhone 8, SE, XR or 11 then turning on screen curtain makes no difference because it simply makes every pixel on the screen black. However, in recent versions of iOS I believe turning on screen curtain also drops the brightness level to 0% and in fact that is where your battery savings comes in. Of course you could overwrite automatic brightness and turn the brightness to 0% manually and if you did this there would be no difference in battery usage whether screen curtain is on or not, it's the brightness level/backlighting which uses up battery power.

I am not sure how this works on a laptop, but I assume turning on Jaws screen shade does not change the brightness level and if that is true then turning it on will make no difference to how much battery is used up.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hi Ashleigh,

No, its nothing like that at all, the main reason for wanting the display constantly  off is that on a laptop one of the biggest drains on the battery is the display, since I don’t use it anyway it just makes sense to have it turned off to conserve battery life. The iPhone  has a similar function called screen curtain  which you can set to be on all the time, it turns the display off which hugely conserves battery life  on the phone. I really just wanted this function to  make the battery charge last longer when using my laptop, rather than wasting battery life powering a display which I’m not using anyway. Thanks for reaching out though to check I was doing ok, its nice to know people  are watching out  for each other here, but I’m doing absolutely fine, hope you are too.

Subject: Recent Accessibility of Docusign with JAWS

Hi All,

Has anyone tried using Docusign recently with JAWS, or NVDA for that matter?

We had used it about 3 years ago when selling a house and found it quite
accessible. However, today when we tried to use it again, it was unuseable.

For example, if you hit the letter B to navigate to the next button to sign,

and then hit enter or spacebar, no signature was applied. Focus was thrown
either to somewhere else in the document or completely into a different open

window. We found similar results with NVDA.

Has anyone had success using Docusign lately, and if so, with which screen
reader and browser? We were using Chrome.

I finally ended up trying it on my iPhone, and did have better luck there.

Thanks,
Pam

Funny, I received your e-mail exactly as I was using docusign. It worked fine for me using Chrome and JAWS just now .

Sure, happy to help!

If you use Excel and prefer that for using JAWS to review query results, you can also spool to a .csv file.

If you want suggestions on what needs to be set to do this, go ahead and write me off list.

Pam

Once you have set your environment for the database you want to access, run: select tablename from dba_tables.

You can also spool the results to a file so the file might be easier to read using JAWS, rather than reviewing it on the screen.

Thank you, Pam! When you access the database through the command line, how do you find out which tables are in it? I know that once you know the table, you can find its columns with the describe command.

Mike,

I am an oracle DBA. Most of my access is via the command line and through sqlplus. I also use OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), though I find some aspects of the GUI a bit cumbersome with JAWS.

Hi,

What is the most common way people access Oracle Database using JAWS these days?

Thank you,
Mike
