Jaws 2018 loses focus and stops voicing #jaws #fusion

jim.dykes@...

I do tech support for a state agency, and support a user on Fusion 2018. He has a 64 bit Windows 10 desktop machine with Office 2016. For this user, Jaws frequently seems to lose focus and stops voicing any detailed information. For example, it will voice "alt-tab" when those keys are used, but won't announce the window it's on and is completely silent if the user drops into any given window. The only fix I've come up with is completely closing and restarting Fusion. It seems to be connected with Office 2016, particularly Outlook. Also, does anyone know of a keyboard command to completely unload Fusion? Closing the software is nearly impossible for the user when Jaws is voicing so little information.

Today while working with a client I wanted to get into the Gmail Settings via the web interface.  In order to do this you must activate the Settings Menu Button, which drops down the Settings Button submenu, and you choose the Settings item from it.

In my notes I somehow omitted how I managed to "zero in" on that Settings Menu Button without having to brute force TAB or use a long stream of 'B's to jump from button to button.  I've tried several JAWS Searches on what I had thought was hidden label text for that button, which actually shows a cog icon, but nothing is found.

Does anyone know a way that does not involve brute force navigation to get to that particular button quickly?   In this case we were using the JAWS 2019 beta running on a Windows 7 machine, but given that this is a webpage I doubt that either the JAWS version or the Windows version is critical here.

Hi Cristóbal,

One thought is maybe your screen echo has changed.  While in Outlook press, Jaws key + S, to tobble through settings.  They are Highlighted, All, & None.  It sounds like it might be set on, All, so switch it to, Highlighted, and see if that helps.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

Hello list,

I’ve been having this issue for a while now. I can’t recall when it started, but regardless, it happens every single time  I switch folders in Outlook 2016. Be it a main inbox or subfolder, etc.

I get the below message every time I switch folders.

List box Connectivity to your server. Connected

I don’t need to be informed that I’m connected all the time. Any ideas on how to stop this?

I’ve got 6 email accounts configured with a mixture of imap and exchange. This will occur regardless if I switch to an imap folder.

Anyway, I’m on Jaws 2018 and recently started to play with the JFW 2019 beta. This exact same behavior is occurring in the beta so I know at this point it’s not just my JFW 2018 version. I’m sure it has to do with a setting I’m not aware of or have perhaps by accident enabled.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Hi Dan Yeswhen I call FS support lady did able to helps me on Tuesday afternoon when I told her that I download and installed jaws 2018 on Monday afternoon when I spoke with fs man and Microsoft disability support with the man they tell me jaws 18 is done when they listen to my laptop with jaws 18 window 10 on IE and heard the history preview history close then arrow right to today close then arrow right today open then arrow up it say yesterday close .

So when I explains everything to fs lady support she told me that strange jaws 18 and jaws 2018 not read up so she did jaws tandem she find the problem so she fix it for me. Here what she told me below

Your history settings were set to not save your history so none of the history from yesterday was saved.  I set it to save your history from now on.  If you go in right now, it will still not show yesterday, but if you go in there tomorrow, you will see yesterday again because it started saving again since I changed it.

Starting tomorrow

Hi,

Did you get an answer to this?  You need to be sure that your history settings is not set to “Clear history each time IE is closed.”  This may be your problem as history will clear after each closure and not retain information.  There are other settings to tell IE how often to clear history.

Hi,

JAWS is picking up this screen text.  I am not sure if Outlook has an option to block this.  The announcement is Outlook notifying that you have correctly connected to your server.  With IMAP the program is constantly checking to sync with the server.

Good afternoon,

My company recently upgraded to Office 2016, and I have a coworker who is
having trouble moving emails to folders. He used to go to the Home tab then
to the Move section. He would hit spacebar and be able to choose from
several folders. Now, he gets to the move item and Jaws says there's a grid
and he can't go to the grid by tabbing or using the arrow keys. He is on
Windows 7 and the latest build of jaws 2018. He used to be able to do this
function in Outlook 2010.

To add to this, if you just want it in the one app, then make sure you're in
that app before pressing Insert+V. If you want progress bars never to be
spoken, then press Insert+V, then Control+Shift+D to save to the default
settings.

All the best

Debbie, To stop JAWS from speaking progress bars, hit Insert+V and keep
hitting the Down Arrow until you hear General Options. Hit the Down Arrow
again 3 times til you hear Progress bar spoken and hit the Space bar. You
will hear "Progress bar silent" then hit Enter. Jaws will no longer speak
any progress bars.

Hello Debby:

I tried cycling through the options by pressing JAWS KEY+S but, the speaking
of the elapsed time are still spoken. By default, like you, the setting is
Highlighted.

The layered keystroke, JAWS KEY+S, followed by the letter S, in JAWS 14, is
a toggle to mute and unmute JAWS.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi Dave,

I have two ideas, but someone else may know others. First you can press
the
JAWSKey plus the letter S and cycle through what JAWS will say. The
choices
are all, none and highlighted. Mine has always defaulted to highlighted.
That will stop it saying the numbers as they advance.

Or you could use the layered keystroke JAWSKey then space and then S. This
has the choices of speech on demand and full speech. Remember with both of
these once you are done with the streaming, you will have to reset them.

Hope this helps!

Last week, I had been having trouble with Firefox and JAWS.  This was resolved by updating JAWS and turning off automatic updates in Firefox, locking it at version 52 ESR.  Now, in the last couple of days, when I respond to an email using Windows Live Mail, the system locks when I hit Alt+S to send my message.  I am still able to read my message with JAWS, but nothing happens when I try to edit or switch to another window with ALT+TAB.  I must bring up Program Manager with ALT+CRL+DELETE and hit the Switch To Button for Windows Live Mail.  It will go to WLM and then I can ALT+TAB to my message and hit ALT+S and the message will be sent.  Another thing that I have noticed is that after I add a signature to my messages, I can not edit them any further.  Is this weird or what?

Hi,
use the context applications key and hit m for move then choose the folder.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Moving Emails to Folders in Outlook 2016

Good afternoon,

My company recently upgraded to Office 2016, and I have a coworker who is
having trouble moving emails to folders. He used to go to the Home tab then
to the Move section. He would hit spacebar and be able to choose from
several folders. Now, he gets to the move item and Jaws says there's a grid
and he can't go to the grid by tabbing or using the arrow keys. He is on
Windows 7 and the latest build of jaws 2018. He used to be able to do this
function in Outlook 2010.

Thanks for your help,

I put it on all my machines.  It seems good so far, and I've been trying to crash Firefox without success.  I'm sure my jaw muscles will unclench eventually, those firefox problems were really getting to me.
