Hank William Merchant
Hello,
With jfw2020 and the latest version of zoom, can someone maybe please tell me the key stroke to mute and unmute your mike in a zoom meeting? Any help with this would be so very much appreciated! Thanks very much in advance for any possible help with this.
Kindest regards, Hank

When I’m using JAWS with Zoom so often throughout the meeting it tells me that someone has left the meeting, someone’s bandwidth is low or someone’s microphone is muted, etc. Having these messages go through a Zoom meeting several dozen or hundred times is just unworkable. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the settings center I’m missing how to shut these messages off? I don’t want to turn JAWS off to the “Speech on Demand” because I’m working with a Word document while in the meeting and need JAWS to talk to me, just without these nonstop notifications. Thank you!

I myself have left groups because the moderator seemed like Nero far too often. There was also a moderator who wanted all the praise but did not want to do any of the work. She subscribed to the idea of “Work smart” Get others to do all of the work. Yes, my finger was sliding over to the delete key if there is a thread I’m not interested in, as with the topic that has raised the comments about lack of moderation.

Microsoft Word and Styles
Mark
In another thread, Robin Van Lant asked an interesting question about Word and Headings in another thread. I had a related question I thought best for a separate thread. Does anyone have experience customizing and applying Word styles with JAWS? Since a style is just a group of font and typographic settings that can be applied to line or paragraph of text, they are really helpful for people who do lots of writing for visual readers, such as students writing essays or a lawyer writing legal briefs.

You definitely should select the text you want as part of the heaging. I select the text and press control+shift+S and arrow down to heading level 1, or 2 and hit enter. I'll have to try the control+alt+1 etc next time.

Hi Robin, The easiest way to create headings, is to press alt control number one for heading level one, Alt control number two for heading level two, and alt control three for heading level three. I don’t think it’ll work for headings above that heading level III, but I’m not too sure about that. Also you may have to select the text that you want to make a heading for, but again I’m not sure about that. It may work if you’re just on the line where you want the heading. Hope this helps, Russell

Easiest way to add headings to Word doc?
Van Lant, Robin
Hi, I have a long JAWS help file where I keep my notes on using JAWS with various software. What is the easiest way to add headings so that I can turn on quick keys and navigate this large document with level 1 and level 2 headings? The style task pane seemed a bit intimidating. I can go back to my Window Eyes and Word 2010 book from Cathie Ann to see if she covers the topic more thoroughly, but hoping someone can answer for this simple aspect. Using JAWS 2021 and Word 2016. I really need a better way to find topics in this document, over the way I’ve been doing it.
