this issue is driving me crazy.  It baffles me why this is even
happening.  This program has worked flawlessly for years, and now
since i switched laptops, running the same program, and jaws, why when
i do this particular action, the cursor just by some sort of magic,
moves up several spaces.  It makes no sense to me.  Bottom line, i
need to get this working.  If anyone has any ideas, that would be
enormously helpful  Like i said, it just makes no sense, why when i
route jaws to PC, the cursor would just move up a few spaces, and
highlight the wrong item.  is there any way to do some sort of jaws
repair?

Re: Annoying new announcement in Firefox

Cristóbal,

I've encountered this many times now, but not when running a screen reader.  If this is still happening for you I'd be glad to take a look via Quick Assist or Teamviewer as I'd be curious to see if there is a way to navigate the sequence via any screen reader.

Richard,

F6 works for me too, but Word Count may not show up if it wasn’t checked after getting to the Status Bar settings with F6 and then doing shift+f10 to bring up the context menu and checking things like Word count, column, (which I find helpful as it tells you how far across the line you are, etc.

If you cannot get there with f6, alt+r then w will give you the word count, or it should anyway.

F6 works for me in current Microsoft Word for Office 365 with JAWS 2019. Alternatively, you can use Insert+Numpad-3 to read the status line.

Hi!

I seem to remember that pressing F6 would cycle me around the ribbon, document pane, status bar and so on.  Now, when I press F6 all I hear is “document pane.”  I want to get to the status bar so I can check on some statistics (e.g., number of words) in my document.  How do I get there?

Thanks,

Re: JAWS2018.1811.2 Update Download Links + What's New In This Release

empacc.net

hi:

oh, I see!!

what you should do is uninstall jaws 2018 first and reinstall it.

of course, if you have another jaws version or nvda use that to delete the folder for jaws 2018 before reinstalling it.

you don't want to delete that folder while using same version while running it.

reinstalling jaws 2018 will recreate the folder and put all necessary files back.

so, after reinstalling jaws 2018 if you go back into the app data folder freedom scientific jaws folder you see another jaws 2018 folder in there.

deleting this will not remove your jaws key or any shared folder for other versions of jaws.

when uninstalling, you don't want to remove those unless jaws 2018 is the only version you have.

then it's okay to delete everything and start from scratch.

hi:

no-one has mentioned this so I will put this out there.

have you gone into your app data folder and under the freedom scientific
you will find a jaws folder.

enter and you will find folders which correspond to the versions of jaws
you have on your computer.

one of those will be jaws2018.

delete that one and then try to install again.

you won’t lose anything by doing this.

I’m thinking the 2018 folder may have been corrupted somehow.

I always have installed from the offline installer, and this time is no

Hi folks,

In Windows 7 and before I always found the Dvorak keyboard in Control Panel in something like Languages or Keyboard or something loosely related to that. But in Windows 10 the search boxes don't find it. Anybody know where it's hidden now?

    hi:

no-one has mentioned this so I will put this out there.

have you gone into your app data folder and under the freedom scientific you will find a jaws folder.

enter and you will find folders which correspond to the versions of jaws you have on your computer.

one of those will be jaws2018.

delete that one and then try to install again.

you won’t lose anything by doing this.

I’m thinking the 2018 folder may have been corrupted somehow.

F6 works for me in current Microsoft Word for Office 365 with JAWS 2019. Alternatively, you can use Insert+Numpad-3 to read the status line.

Re: New Facebook behavior with screen readers and pictures

I believe that Facebook is using A I to automatically “recognize” images and from that add the “alt tag” that screen readers access.  No doubt, no one is doing all that work personally because they want their stuff to be accessable.  What is remarkable is how well the A I technology works.  I like it!  Welcome to the machine ; )

Hello list,

So maybe it’s been around for a bit, but I barely noticed it first on the FB iOS app and now while browsing FB on my PC with Firefox and Chrome, but it looks like VoiceOver and Jaws at least are reading the included text in image postings. I know one could always add the alt text, but at least for the few memes and pictures my friend’s and family are posting, I don’t have to do anything special. The text is simply being read. In iOS it was kind of a hassle since you had to first save the picture to your camera roll then navigate to the photos app then use the Seeing AI app to recognize text only to find out that the picture you saved was just of someone’s dog with the word woof on it or something like that. Jaws was way more hit and miss if you were lucky.

Is anyone else seeing this as the saying goes or have I been in the dark and this is simply old news?

Hi. using visual studio 2017 community 15.9.1 32 bit on a Toshiba satellite pro c-50-a laptop. Running 8 gb ram, a 2.5 ghz quad core processor , 750 gb hard disk, radium 4900 graphics. Updated and when using visual studio 2017, as doing a interactive gaming course and using unity, and using c #, with jaws, after a while if I have a few windows open, then jaws or nvda stop responding, and get the blue screen of death and have to reboot. Why is that doing. Is their a utlity to trouble shoot, so I can then try to figure out why. Did contact freedom scientific, wondering if I have to update my drivers, like my radium graphics card, etc, via device manager. 4 year old laptop.

Any ideas.

Hopefully this fixes it, only with visual studio do I get this issue. As doing a course via http://www.upskilled.edu.au and unity is not accessible the editor, and so using visual studio.

Any ideas, or any utilities , did try googling and then listening to a few utube videos, but a lot complex.

Thanks.

jaws 2019 and visual studio 2017 crashing my toshiba satellite pro c-50-alaptop

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>

Hi. using visual studio 2017 community 15.9.1 32 bit on a Toshiba satellite pro c-50-a laptop.

Thanks.

Re: surveying about Flexible Web use

Hope Williamson <isepic@...>

By the way, there are various browser extensions to manage cluttered webpages. Firefox has it's own reader view, for instance. However, ad blockers do wonders! They're also able to block those ridiculous social media sharing buttons.

I don't want to use something like flexible web that's built-into a screen reader. Mostly because I think adding extra features like that causes bloat. I really enjoy the way NVDA does things with add-ons. Also, I'd rather have my browser manage my web activity. The screen reader is there simply for one purpose, to make the web usable for me.

Things like quick nav, and OCR for PDF documents make the web usable. Although OCR is a separate thing. I also have never used research it. Why? because I enjoy web surfing!

Annoying new announcement in Firefox

Cristóbal

Hello list,

I’d been meaning to write about this for a bit, but got busy with other things and have been playing with Chrome, but with the recent versions of Firefox, I’ve been getting this notification with nearly every new page I load and can’t figure out how to click it away or stop it from popping up. See:

Alert!
New in Firefox: Content Blocking

The privacy benefits of Tracking Protection are now just one part of content blocking. When you see the shield, content blocking is on.

I’m perfectly happy with the actual function of Firefox doing more to bloc trackers and so on, but I don’t’ need to have this spoken to me every time ai go to another page. Also, it says 1 of 3. I can’t seem to access any of this with the Jaws cursor or playing around with the F6 key and tabbing, etc.

Anyone know how to stop this announcement/notification?

Thanks,
