Hi!

I am using JAWS 2019 with Excel 2016.  Every time I exit Excel (alt+F4) after saving my workbook (Controls), both Excel and JAWS crash.  I do not know which crashes first, if that matters.  JAWS automatically restarts.  Excel comes up with the dialogue box saying that the program has stopped working and asks me if I would like to restart the program.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Richard

Re: JAWS 2019 and Microsoft Word not working properly together

Hi!

I too have found a few bugs with Word, Excel, and Outlook 2016 with JAWS 2019.  However, I think it is *really* important for us all to first see if there is a solution to the problem to be found on this list, and failing that then to send the issue into JAWS for a spot on the bug fix cue.  I have sent-in about three myself.  We all want JAWS to be functional and stable.  If we do not take the time to help fix things, they won’t be.

Respectfully,

Richard M.

Michael,
Your messages are ending up at the very end of the quoted messages, so probably not being read by very many people.
Make sure when you write your reply, you are above the quoted text.

I deleted one of your messages because it looked to be empty. When you sent a second that looked the same, I jumped to the end and arrowed back up and found your reply.
I won't be doing that again since it is somewhat of a drag.

Just hoping to help.

I guess being a newbee with Jaws I was quite surprised when I was told by Jaws support that it was a good idea to keep a earlier version of Jaws when installing the newest version as the new version may have issues. I know that is always a possibility with new releases but they made it seem that new releases of Jaws were always quite buggy.

I kind of agree with you.
If you purches the new home annual license you probibly be able to keep up with the current version.
Freedom Scientific or Vispero™ is very logical of coming up with this method.

Its always a good idea to keep backup copies of all your important files , as you never know when things could go wrong.

But as a newbie you should know this anyway 😃

But, why would this be off topic?
You are using Jaws, right? It is a question related to accessing podcasts using Jaws, right?

Have you tried the free TuneIn radio app in the Windows 10 store?

To be perfectly blunt, JAWS 2019 was probably released prematurely.  Vispero seems to have a firm October 31 deadline by which they insist on releasing the latest version of JAWS, regardless of whether or not it still has known bugs that they haven’t have enough time to fix.

If you haven’t, spending $100 or 75 British Pounds seems a bit over the top.  Granted, Leasey offers lots of other features and is probably a good package for many.  For me, I don’t mind a few extra keystrokes, in this case, very few.

Here is the Leasey new pricing page for anyone interested.

If you use Brian Hartgen's Leasey program there is a slightly quicker way to unprotect a Word document.

1. From within the Word document press the Leasey key, which is usually the grave accent key.

2. Next, press shift-ctrl-U, which will unprotect the document if it is protected.

Hello all,

Mario

yes, I have uninstalled 2018 without removing shared components because
I also have a previous version of JAWS installed (16) for those "just in
case" moments.

Have you tried to uninstall Jaws 2018, first by leaving shared
components and user settings and then tried to reinstall?
I assume you don't yet have Jaws 2019?

Hi Mario,
I'm running Windows 10 home 64 bit on a Dell laptop with an SSD drive. I just installed this Jaws 2018 update and it took maybe 2 minutes and went without a hitch.
I don't recall where you live, but I'd call Microsoft Accessibility and have them remote into your machine so they can see what happens and I'll be surprised if they can't fix the issue long before Monday.
800-936-5900 assuming you are in North America.

HTH,

correction. the code is 8070643. running the installer without JAWS running uses a "built in voice" which eventually speaks an error code.
however, JAWS nor NVDA does not read this code, not even using Speech History, Virtualize mode (insert+alt+w) or Convenient OCR.

I'm still going to call FS Monday unless there is a fix that's posted on their sight... or you guys or gals can help sooner.

no error code, just the message "31%. the installation failed".
I'll call them Monday.
hope I get someone who will help and not just say to try to install 2019.

Hi Mario,

I don't have a clue! Maybe call FS tech support. Are you getting any error codes / messages? I just updated 4 computers, 2 Windows 10 and 2 Windows 7 without a problem.
Take care. Go Rams!
