It does not work in Windows 7.

Hi all,
in several apps like Chrome and Outlook there is a sound played as soon
as I type a word that contains a spelling mistake and press space. I
like that but I'd like to adjust it a bit.
I thought I could set it up in the Speech and Sound Schemes but there
are no sounds configured and the learning mode does not give any
information when typing a word containing an error.
So I guess it's not the Speech and Sound Scheme that is responsible for
this functionality.
Do you have any idea where this behavior comes from and if it is
adjustable?

Thanks and best regards
Denis

Re: Jaws 2018 How to do remoted assistance with jaws?

If you want your sighted assistant to be able to either just see what's going on, or to have full control over your machine while working together, Jonas has given you excellent advice:  Quick Assist, which is built-in to Windows 10.    If you hit the Windows Key and start typing just the word Quick then Quick Assist is almost certain to be the first item returned in the search.

I have used this a number of times when providing remote support.  What's interesting is that sometimes I would get the screen reader voice output through my own speakers and other times I wouldn't, not that I needed it.  There is not a voice component to Quick Assist (or if there is I didn't use it), so I always have a simultaneous phone call going on over speakerphone so that both sides of the session can talk to one another as needed.

If both sides needed JAWS, then JAWS Tandem is the way to go.

Be careful with the windows cleanup function under disk management.
There is now a entry that will delete all your files in the document

Hi,
Downloads folder, not Documents.
Also, the toast command has changed - you now need to press Windows+Shift+V to move focus to the currently visible toast notification unless you wish to view a history of things you've copied to the clipboard.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: How do I access Jaws settings center?

Edward Green

Hi David,

You have a couple of ways to access Settings Center.

You can press JAWS key+f2 to bring up a list of JAWS managers. From here, arrow down to Settings center and press enter.

Alternatively you can press JAWS key+6 to open the Settings Center directly. Note that that's the 6 on the number row of your keyboard, not a function key as per the previous command.

Once in the Settings Center, you have a search box and a tree view. The tree view lets you explore the different settings, though there are rather a lot of them.

If you know roughly what setting you want to change, the search box is a useful way to narrow the tree view so that it only shows relevant results.

When you open the Settings Center, settings pertaining to the relevant Windows application will be loaded ready for modification. If you want your changes to settings to apply across the board, I.E. beyond the application you're currently in, press shift+control+d to load the default settings.

Cheers,

Ed
