Hello,

I’m trying to see what rules I’ve created in Outlook 2016. However, when I go to the “Manage rules and alerts” dialogue within the rules submenu, I get something like this message. “the operation failed because of a registry or installation problem.” JAWS also tells me to restart outlook and try again. I’ve done that many times/still can’t see my rules I’ve created. Funnily enough, I can’t move any messages to specific folders using the rules submenu either. I don’t want to have to reinstall outlook—that’s what the message also says if problem isn’t fixed. I don’t know the exact date this started happening, but I find it weird all of a sudden. As of last week, though everything was working fine/sure don’t want to do a system restore/mess with registry stuff. Any help?

Thank you,

Re: Hp Pavillion function keys

What's the exact model number?  If you go to the support page for that machine and download the Owner's Manual (or whatever they call it) it should note whether media keys/smart keys are enabled by default or not.

I don't know exactly when, or on which model(s), this feature made its debut.  You could definitely get your parents to do the BIOS tweak if it is present and enabled.

Have you tried turning off the “Use accessibility driver for screen
capture” option in the JAWS settings? If this doesn’t help, the next
step would be to contact Microsoft’s accessibility support and ask them
to analyze the minidump files that are created when the system crashes.
If I remember correctly, they’re in c:\windows\minidump

Hello all,

I’m having an issue with JAWS enabled whilst running some mapping
software. Every time I try to zoom in to the map, I get a blue screen of
death.
I am on Windows 10 update 1803 (OS Build 17134.345).
I have updated all my display drivers and have gotten the newest update
of JAWS given to me (Version 2012.1811.2 ILM) and it still seems to
occur no matter what.

I am using Intel HD Graphics 4600 display driver.

When I remove JAWS completely from my system, this BSOD does not occur
anymore.

I have found users of other applications experiencing the same thing
(https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/654578/bsod-triggered-exclusively-by-faststone-image-viewer/)

I am wondering if this has been reported before here and if not what
possible workarounds there might be?
Thank you kindly!

Re: OCR and JPG files

JM Casey

You could open the picture using something like paint and try to get JAWS 18 to recognise it.

But I never got good results.

Even now the results seem – a bit substandard based on my experience of trying to OCR dozens of image files – but it has definitely improved since version 18.

This only applies to Jaws 2018 and Jaws 2019, in Jaws 18 and earlier OCR was only possible on PDF files and from inside Acrobat Reader.

OK, I do admit that I don't know if the feature to recognize almost any image file with Jaws OCR was added in one of the later Jaws 18 updates, but I don't think so.

You can do “JAWS+Spacebar then “o” and then either “e” or “w”. I t doesn’t really give you anything, but give it a shot. You can also try using the application key then the letter “j” which recognize any text if there is any. The first way you have to open the file, the second way, you just right click (the application key).

Have you ever experienced this before?

Hi Jim,

I've run Surface Pros with Jaws for several years. The newer Surface Pro keyboard is much easier to use than were the older models. Starting with Surface Pro 4, the keyboard is much easier to type on. Of course, you can get a Bluetooth keyboard if you wish. I have a unit with 16 GB of RAM, and it works really well with Jaws running Windows 10. If you have additional questions, ask away.

Subject: Speaking ProblemWith New Windows 10 Computer

Hello, everyone.

As some of you may remember, I’m continuing to set up a new Dell Windows 10 computer with Jaws.

The computer has an Intel I7 processor, 16 gigabytes of ram, a 12 gigabyte solid-state drive, and a 1 terabyte mechanical hard drive.

I mention this right from the start, because this computer should have plenty of horse power to work well with Jaws.

I have noticed that, when typing something, after I stop using the computer for 30 seconds or so, I do not get Jaws feedback until I press at least four or five keys.  In other words, there’s a considerable delay until Jaws starts speaking again.

I am thinking this is a Jaws issue, but am not totally sure.

I’m currently using Jaws 2018, and plan to upgrade to Jaws 2019 soon, although I’m a bit hesitant to do so right now because of other known problems with Jaws 2019 and MS Word.

Are there some settings I should look at to try to address this issue?

Thanks as always!

Dr.  Tom Behler from Michigan
