Read the “about” link. If it matches what you know, then you probably have the correct person. Another method is check who their friends are.  I mentioned this because some use a different name.  Sounds dicey I know but, I know of one person who uses a different name to her legal name. The only reason I recognized her was by her friends, we had the same.

There is a residence for the blind in midtown Manhattan that requires prospective residents to be Section 8 eligible, which means that their annual income cannot exceed $15,000.  To problem with this ridiculous scenario is that it would be impossible to live on such a meager pittance in this particular neighborhood where studio co-ops on the very same block as this residence for the blind typically sell for about $1 million.  So in order to make themselves Section 8 eligible, some blind residents are probably hiding assets either through elaborate investment schemes or trust arrangements.  Could anyone imagine shopping at the nearby Trader's Joe's and Whole Foods on only $15,000 a year?  Not possible, even with the help of SNAP benefits unless some kind of creative investing maneuvers were employed.

moderated JAWS 2020 - Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Prohect Crash #fusion #jaws

Hello,

For a few months now, I have been having issues with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Project crashing if I have Fusion 2020 running.

Setup:
- Fusion 2020 - up to date
- Microsoft Office 365 - current semi annual update.

I can use teams for chat's and calls without issues. But as soon as I open tasks, OneNote, Word/Excel or Powerpoint file in teams (doesn't happen if I remeember to right click an open in app). Teams creashes and reloads.

If I quit Fusion, the system works fine.

I have recently started with Microsoft Project (latest version) and I have the same issue. If I open Project with Fusion open, it will crash and restart. As soon as I close Fusion, is works perfectly.

Does anyone have any ideas why?

Kind Regards
Tim

Keep in mind that if you have Jaws 2021 sending "silent noise" to the soundcard is now built into Jaws. I know one person posted that for him this apparently did not work as well as Silenzio, but I know of many others who say it works just as well.

It’s amazing how many things come up including the Italian to English translation.

I know I looked into this before and someone sent a link, but could someone send the link again and perhaps say more about why this is helpful?

I’m not aware of my sound card getting tired enough to take a nap, but I could just be ignoring it.

BTW, after trying out Silenzio, I uninstalled it almost immediately.

It made my sound card worse and had its own bit of distortion that it introduced.

I only tried it out because all these Jaws users were talking about it.

But the built in feature in Jaws called: “Avoid speech cut off when using Bluetooth headphones or some sound cards” works perfectly for me.

It is found in the Jaws settings center, by pressing insert+6 on the number row.

Then control+shift+d to open the default settings,

Arrow down once to user closed, right arrow to open it, then down arrow until you get to Avoid speech cut off when using Bluetooth headphones or some sound cards and if it is not checked, press the spacebar and tab to OK and hit enter, and if it asks you if you want to save the settings, of course, say yes.

Thanks again Brian,

I’m using Jaws but I suspect the following will work with NVDA as well.

For you and others who want to know how to get Edge to do the translation, hit alt+d to bring up the address bar when you are on the page you want translated.

Tab to show translation options, which for me shows up just after enter immersive reader.

Hit the spacebar on that and you will get your options.  The first, of course, is translate page.

I hit that and then went to the info about Silenzio 2.0 and copied this:

Silenzio 2.0

Program to keep your sound card on standby

Description

Silenzio is used to significantly speed up your computer's response when working with voice output. Acceleration is achieved by permanently playing back the silence in the background, which keeps the sound card in operation all the time. All of today's internal or external sound cards, as well as other devices such as various USB speakers, USB headphones, headphones connected via bluetoth and others, work on the principle that if they don't play anything right now, they go into a kind of economical mode from which they wake up when they get the sound to play. From an ordinary user's point of view, this is not a problem, because with standard sounds such as music or operating system sounds, waking up to a sound card is negligible. The situation is different when working with voice output, when we can receive information almost every time you press the keyboard (switching between windows, moving in a document, browsing a web page). These situations cause the sound card to be permanently put to sleep and awake by voice output, creating a tiny but rather noticeable latency when working quickly. This issue is addressed by Silenzio, which, by constantly playing silence in the background, does not allow the card to go into saving mode.

This problem was previously addressed by Galop's Soundfix program. This was at a time when various USB and wireless audio devices were not yet widespread, and computers were working with one - usually built-in - sound card. When USB sound cards came to market, it was regularly the case that if a user connected a USB headset or speaker to the computer, Soundfix continued to keep the original sound card awake and the effect was thus lost. My friend Peter Nedorost therefore contacted the programme makers asking them to update the program and adapt it to the current facilities. Since Galop replied that it would not continue to develop the program, Peťo Nedorost contacted me asking me to write such a program. It wasn't challenging and the program soon saw the light of day.

Generally, when I have encountered this error it is because of custom scripts that are running for an application, and then Vispero changed or added functionality to the script running in the personal area. You can test this by running JAWS in default mode.
You should be able to toggle this on/off with insert-space followed by Z. If indeed you are running additional scripts that you worked on, I would be willing to help you modify them so that JAWS won't break when functionality changes.
If you want direct help, reply directly to me.

Yes, and I know that we were typing at the same time.  The programmer's pages are in Slovak with a really incomplete English translation.  There are also supposed to be Italian and German translations of the site, but speaking neither, I didn't look to see if either is any more complete than the English translation.

Silenzio source page:  https://stefankiss.sk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=30

As you've suggested, it's always best to do a web search to find the actual source for a given program rather than using secondary sources whenever possible.

Have any of you tried to just search for silenzio on the web?

It’s amazing how many things come up including the Italian to English translation.

I know I looked into this before and someone sent a link, but could someone send the link again and perhaps say more about why this is helpful?

I’m not aware of my sound card getting tired enough to take a nap, but I could just be ignoring it.

Do you know of any advantage to downloading and installing the update?

I have an earlier version of silenzio here, and it seems to work just fine.

Thanks!

Silenzio is a small utility that will continuously play a WAV file which will not let your computer's soundcard sleep.

Schwab redesigned their web site about 2-3 years ago.
They have a dedicated group for accessible issues.

Our firm has custodied clients with Fidelity since 2006, when we moved from Schwab partly because the Schwab Institutional software was inaccessible. Fidelity's Institutional arm used HTML so for years I could navigate it easily. I use fidelity.com's watch list feature and manage my cash on the site. I've never found the site inaccessible for anything I want to do. The Institutional site, however, is less accessible with a lot of unlabeled buttons and the like.

I think that most of the brokerage platforms these days are accessible, though one of the people on this list had to work with Schwab to understand a large update they did on their retail site.

I'm pleased with the Fidelity site accessibility and ease of use once one gets the hang of its multi level organization.

It might be useful to note that Fidelity has presented at the popular CSUN conference on assistive technology on Web access.

Thank you, Paul, for your keen insights on Vanguard. Even though they
compete against me professionally, I've always respected Vanguard as a
solid company that tries to treat their clients right. They made a
big deal of keeping expenses low long before most other investment
firms were even thinking about it. I'm glad to know Vanguard executed
their customer-centered focus by putting in practice a learned
approach to accessibility.

OK, first some truth in advertising; I am in the financial planning
and money management business. So I have tech preferences and
regulations for what I do that retail investors do not have. Over the
last few years, I have used in my business a tech platform called
Wealthscape which is very serviceable for trading investments and
moving cash. I don't think those outside the industry would have
access to the Wealthscape brand, but my point is that it is developed
by Fidelity. So to some extent I use Fidelity-branded securities
trading platforms on a daily basis and have found this one to be
fairly accessible. It's not perfect, but functionality has gotten
appreciably better with JAWS 2021 and Windows 10.

My other positive Fidelity experience came 10-15 years ago, when two
different clients allowed me to serve as a third-party agent so I had
the authority to adjust their 401(k) plan, which Fidelity had official
custody of. I had no problem reallocating mutual fund positions, or
even buying stocks, on my clients' behalf using the Fidelity platform,
even though Fidelity was not native to any other part of my day-to-day
work. My point is that it felt very natural to use that particular
version of Fidelity's retail platform back in the 2005-2010 period, as
it took me no time at all to train myself on where to find things on
the screen, etc.

Take my observations for what they are worth. I have no idea how good
the Fidelity interface is in 2021 re accessibility.

I will follow this thread with great interest.

Kind regards,

-Kane
