The following web page will contain 3 excellent webinars regarding Jaws and Powerpoint.

I am sorry, I know of no jaws specific tutorials for Google classroom, such training would be welcome.

Doug,

This is certainly not the default behavior. Could you provide some additional specific information which will give us the opportunity to try and duplicate the problem.

1. Which version of JAWS are you using?

2. Which speech synthesizer are you using? If it's one of the Nuance voices, which voice are you using?

3. Which version of Windows are you running?

4. In which program do you notice the behavior occurring?

5. Which version of the program are you running?

6. Does this occur on a specific Web site? Does it occur on all or most Web sites? Which Web site do you see the issue occurring?

Hi all,
Following Jed's question, I would like to pose a similar problem. For some reason, when I open a pdf file in Acrobat DC on my lenovo, it comes up as "blank", or so jaws tells, with neither the display, nor jaws actually reading the text. This happens on all pdfs, so there's no question of affecting just scanned files. Running jaws2018, latest win10, and latest acrobat dc. If I use aby to convert it into word, it works fine, but this is not always my best bet, if I want to do something quickly. I understand someone else has raised this in the past, but would be grateful for any experience that solved this. I have settings in "infer reading order."

Best way to fill out PDF files

James Lockwood <lockwoodnd@...>

I am a professional in the legal field and I have to fill out legal PDF documents. What is the best way to read PDF documents that are fillable PDF in an accurate manner? When I use Adobe and jaws the form is read out loud but the boxes to fill-in are out of order with the labels. Does anyone have a way to accurately read PDF files and fill them out correctly? Perhaps the iPhone?

Subject: Adobe Acrobat DC Problem

Hello, everyone.

For some reason, Adobe Acrobat DC is suddenly no longer reading PDF documents on my new Windows 10 computer.

The same documents are being read with no problem on my older Windows 7 machine.

Both computers are using the latest build of Jaws 2019.

I’m wondering if I need to un-install, and re-install Adobe Acrobat DC on this new Windows 10 computer.

If so, can someone give me a legitimate link via which I can get the program.

Or, are there other things anyone would suggest I check before taking this step?

Thanks very much.

Re: couple of questions for list

I just checked and when I go to the Jaws Settings Centre and Key labels NumPad 0/Insert is set to speak, but if you press it (the Jaws key) by itself it says nothing and I don't recall that it ever has said anything. It's simply a modifier key like Shift, Alt or Control and none of them say anything if pressed by themselves.

Re: unable to make jaws read a file RE: can't save a pdf file

I assume the are image PDF's and you would need to use Jaws OCR on them to recognize the text.
Open one of them and press Jaws Key + Spacebar followed by O and D and see what happens.

using JAWS 2018... I know it's not the latest version, but I don't think
it would behave any differently..., pressing the JAWSKey or insert,
alone or in combination with another key is not announced when pressed.
curiously, when key describer mode, pressing insert with another key is
announced as the JAWSKey plus the other key that was pressed.

You can get rid of it by unchecking, under editing, auto correct detection. This will make Spelling error detection and grammatical error detection unavailable. Go figure!

Hi, Tom. To find the AutoCorrect Detection setting:

1. Open Word.
2. Press INSERT plus V for JAWS Quick Settings.
3. Arrow down to Editing Options.
4. Make sure AutoCorrect Detection is unchecked. TAB to the OK button, and press ENTER.

Hi Tom!

You may already know this, but alt+shift+F10 is the equivalent of a "alt-right mouse click" when on something that has been auto corrected. For example, a : ) (without the space) is auto corrected to a 😊 . this sort of auto correction is not exactly the same as a spelling auto correction. An alt+shift+F10 brings up a context menu relative to the auto correction. Perhaps there is some odd setting in your verbosity setting?

Morey,

I'm surprised you haven't hit this before now.   This is a Thunderbird setting (and it exists in other e-mail clients) where if the word attach or attachment is encountered when typing text, and you do not have an attachment on the message, it flags that to prevent you from forgetting to put it on to the message.

This feature can be turned off in Thunderbird.  If you open Options and go to the Composition tab there is a checkbox for Check for missing attachments that should be unchecked.
