No, not an update for JAWS 2019, just an update to JAWS 2018.

My experience has been that if the update doesn't install, I can download the full version from the web site and that install will work. I sometimes get a message telling me to run a JAWS repair when the update doesn't work. I have done that, but it doesn't help. So I just go download the whole stinkin' thing.

Yes, you can.  Personally I find this settings change to work better by changing this setting per application instead of in the Settings Center default all applications.  Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row and if you want to open Settings Center default all applications, press, Control, Shift + D, after opening the Settings Center.
2. Arrow down to, Text Processing closed, right arrow to open, arrow down to, General closed, and right arrow to open.
3. In here you have 17 items, your are interested in items 14, 15 and 16, depending on what you want to do.  When you get to these items tab 1 time to get a description of what the particular setting does.  For what you want, you would want to check number 16, Say Window State First, then tab to Okay, press enter to save and close.
Note:  Sometimes these settings changes don't work as advertised.

I thought JAWS had an option to reverse or change the order of items, such as whether you want to hear the control state first, as in "not checked, item, check box." I believe Window-eyes contained this feature and I thought that JAWS did as well but I can't seem to locate it in Settings Center.

It's been accessed hundreds of times since I put it up, and when I click

Re: Searching for a JAWS-friendly email client

Sameer,

You're quite welcome.   My only words of caution are that you now must do occasional web searches with regard to Windows Live Mail 2012 and security.  Eventually someone is either intentionally going to target it or, due to the fact that is is now unsupported, security holes will open up with time.   You may not decide to change clients even if this occurs, but at the very least you should try to keep yourself informed about any risks that crop up over time and whether they're tolerable to you or not.

Dear List Friends,

I was able to install Windows Live Mail successfully on my computer yesterday. I used the installer sent by one of our list friends, Brian Vogel.

A big thanks to Brian for his help.

But the big difference, and sometimes the deal-breaker, is that Thunderbird is free, and many people only want it if it's free.

I notice that some people recommend Thunderbird as a JAWS-friendly email client. I have used this program for many years, initially with NVDA and now with JAWS 2019. While Thunderbird does technically work reasonably well with JAWS it does have its quirks which, while minor, may prove to be annoying for some users. I continue to use it because it's what I'm comfortable using. However, if I'm going to be honest I'd say that Outlook is really a better choice. JAWS not only supports it beautifully but it offers many ways to customize it in the quick settings dialog that you won't find when using Thunderbird.

It’s probably a different strokes for different folks deal, but for me, I find using the favorites section for switching between inboxes much quicker and more convenient this way. I’ve never really liked the control plus y command. Much less if it’s a command I do countless times every single day.

I have that many as well and I hit control-y and the first letter of the account I want to check.

Maybe I should look at the favorites, but it is hard to imagine it makes things any easier.

I have never used the Favorites in Outlook 2016.

Are these Favorite contacts, or favorite folders?

I am unable to move to the Favourites list in Outlook 2016 by using the Tab key. So, I have to use the CTRL+Y keystroke to move from folder to folder. But my brother can see the folder list on screen & move through it with a mouse.

I am running JAWS 18 & Office 2016 on a Windows 10 desktop.

Hi,

Mail, the Windows 10 app has limited JAWS useage but for a best client I would recommend Outlook , Thunderbird  as others have suggested.

Dear List friends,

I was previously using Windows Live Mail 2012 with Windows 7 to check my emails. Now I have upgraded to Windows 10 & found that Windows Live Mail will not install on Windows 10.

I request you to kindly suggest me a basic JAWS-friendly email client which I can use to check my emails & which is compatible with Windows 10.

Thanking you all in advance for your kind assistance.

Regards

Try again, and if you have any sort of blockers running you might want to disable them first.  This is a direct link to an MS-Word document that should, when activated, immediately cause a Save dialog to pop up so that you can choose where you wish to save the file on your machine.

It's been accessed hundreds of times since I put it up, and when I click through on it in a browser where I am not logged in with the Google account that controls that Google Drive and document I still get the Save dialog.

NO, you don’t want to do that

We shall have to agree to disagree, and vigorously.   With the long past advent of scanning of e-mail messages and attachments by security suites the use of macros as an infection vector has virtually vanished.  Automatic protected mode in MS-Office is a major, major annoyance to anyone who only opens attachments from sources they know or trust.

Here are the instructions I wrote up with regard to turning it off:

It should if one is interested in accurate risk assessment.   Things change, and the use of Office documents as an infection vector became really ineffective decades ago.

One should also be following the practice of not opening any attachments that do not come from a trusted source.

I prefer to focus my security practices on probable issues, which is easy, rather than every remotely possible issue.  Some, like infection from office files from trusted sources, are so remote as to be virtually zero.
