They definitely won't send you a USB stick which is also an authorization dongle every two years. As long as I have used Jaws I'd have a lot of these by now. I don't even think this should come with an expectation to lower the price of an SMA, chances they are sending these free matter for the blind anyways, but a DVD is a few cents if you buy large quantities and shipping is probably a buck in the US and a bit more to Canada, outside of North America it's probably the third-party distributors responsibility anyways and I certainly wouldn't think a $1 or $2 reduction of the SMA makes sense, but as I pointed out before, it's the waste which bugs me.

            All I can tell you is that Firefox has been rock solid stable for all the years and versions I've been using it.

            What follows is not aimed personally, but it is a general observation:  Virtually always these "weird issues" and "odd problems" stem directly from operator error of some sort.  The trick is figuring out what that operator error happens to be.

I’m working with MS Word 2016/Office 365.  One of my clients requires edits be reviewed in tracked changes but that the documents are typed in an older word format *.doc instead of *.docx.

 

I’m coming back into the workforce fulltime after being out for over a year – first on maternity leave beginning last year mid-Fall, and then spending nearly the first year of my daughter’s life taking care of her more fulltime than anything else.

 

The client I’m working with has me typing attorneys’ notes – No problem.  However, working with tracked changes, while I used ot be a wiz at this, either I’ve forgotten something or things have radically changed in the past 15 months.  I haven’t done this in a while.  Can anyone help me with a refresher on working with, reviewing, and reading tracked changes in MS Word with JAWS?

           Under Firefox, CTRL+SHIFT+B brings up the bookmarks manager (which, oddly enough, has the window title "Library").  The structure of the Bookmark Manager is very, very much like File Explorer.

           If you don't happen to open with it in the "From Internet Explorer" list of bookmarks, then Shift+Tab back over to the tree view, get yourself to that group, then tab back over in to the actual bookmarks list for that group.  Locate the bookmark for the page you need to edit.  Since I have no idea what you've called it or how it's stored I can't get more specific about what to search for.  Once you've landed on it, you can then hit Tab and start moving through the edit boxes for a bookmark:

1. Name
2. Location (the URL itself)
3. Tags
4. Keyword

I have never bothered with tags or keyword.  You will, of course, want to select all in the Location edit box and paste in the corrected URL.  There is no save button.  Just make sure to tab out of the field you've edited to make sure it "sticks" and you can then ALT+F4 to close the Bookmarks Manager window.

I use a Lenovo L440, and I really like it. The one thing it lacks is the
applications key. However, below are the steps to add this functionality to
the laptop's printscreen key; which in its native functionality I don't
think I have ever needed to use. This is from an email Ann wrote some time
ago on this list. And, I suspect this works on any computer. So, this is a
really easy and productive thing to do:

1. In any application (I used Eudora) press insert+0 to open the script
manager.
2. Press control+shift+d to get to the default script manager.
3. Go to the bottom of the file, so it's easy to find and delete if you
decide you don't like it.).
4. Type control+e to begin a new script.
5. Give it a name, no spaces: ApplicationsKey.
6. Tab. Can be attached to key, check it.
7. Tab, and type a synopsis
8. Tab again and type a fuller description.
9. Tab, and fill in a category (I chose system)
10. Tab. Assign to hotkey. (I pressed print screen).
11. Tab. Okay.
12. Control+s to compile.

Now you have this:

Script ApplicationsKey ()



EndScript

Which won't do a thing. You need to add the command {shift+f10} and compile
again.

Now it looks like this:

Script ApplicationsKey ()

{shift+f10}

EndScript
Close the script manager and test. If it doesn't work the way you want,
delete it.

How do jaws users evaluate a keyboard on a laptop you are considering?
I'm talking about the presence (or absence) of keys that are necessary to
the functionality of jaws commands.

I received a new Lenovo Ideapad and was dismayed to realize that the
keyboard is missing not only the applications key but also the dedicated
home, end, page up and page down keys. Strangely, my old Lenovo, the one I
am typing this message on, has all these keys so it never occurred to me to
try and verify that the new one would also.
But now I'm wondering, how do you check the keyboard specs when ordering a
new laptop that you haven't actually had your hands on?

Before someone suggests an external keyboard let me say that I require the
portability of a laptop that doesn't necessitate dragging around an extra
keyboard. I also don't really want to remap a bunch of keys to accomplish
everyday functions.

So what do people suggest? Do I really have to drag myself over to
microcenter or some other store so I can actually touch the laptop I'm
considering? Is there another way?
