Muffled And Distorted Audio With Jaws On New Windows 10 Computer

Hello, everyone.
I am in the process of setting up a new Windows 10 computer with Jaws 2018.
I hadn’t used the computer for a couple of days, and when I booted it up this evening, Jaws came up, but was rather distorted and crackly at times.
In other words, the audio simply isn’t as it should be.
I raised and lowered the speaker volume, but the overall Jaws sound is still distorted.
I only have the latest build of Jaws 2018 on this computer.
This computer has 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a new I7 processor, so I know there are plenty of resources to work with.
What am I doing wrong here, and how can I correct this issue?

It depends entirely on how the site was written. What HTML tags or keyboard language or whatever. If you’ve got the Jaws detect language settings enabled and the page is properly coded, you’ll get this effect. More often than not though, this isn’t the case and Jaws gets all jacked up. A site in Spanish being spoken with an American English synth, British a UK domain being spoken in French, etc. Truthfully, for multi-language users, it’s easier to disable the language detect setting and manually switch over to the desired synth language.

I generally don’t’ post stuff like this, but this Hulu deal is actually pretty crazy. I know right now, the service is lacking in regards to accessibility, but Hulu did enter into an agreement where they would begin to offer more accessible content and improve upon their app and site accessibility. Whenever that is sometime next year, one could at least be subscribed. Also, as with Netflix, you can have a main account and have a few subprofiles. My wife renewed her Hulu sub since she dropped it a couple of years ago and went ahead and created one for me this time. I forwarded this same deal to my sister who also renewed her sub and created account for each of my parents so everyone can have their own recommendations and whatnot. Just keep in mind, if you go for the family/ multiple user option, it’s one log in and you have to select who’s watching after that. So … having a unique PW for this account is probably a really good idea if you’re not already making a practice of it. Press ctrl+space. That focuses on the desktop as a whole rather than on any icon.

I have never bothered with tags or keyword. You will, of course, want to select all in the Location edit box and paste in the corrected URL. There is no save button. Just make sure to tab out of the field you've edited to make sure it "sticks" and you can then ALT+F4 to close the Bookmarks Manager window. Many thanks for your fast response. Here is the workaround I could find if I want to easily go for a meeting:
Jaws is configured with the VarioUltra as default braille display. With such a configuration, if the VU is plugged in at the time jaws is started, or even after, it will be detected. The good thing is that if the PC is on my desk and the Braillex is plugged in while the Varioultra is unplugged, it is detected and used as the “current braille display”.
Problem is that if I unplug the Braillex, Varioultra cannot be used as “current braille display” until I restart Jaws.
In other words, I can swith from Varioultra to Braillex by simply unplugging the Varioultra and then plugging the Braillex. However, I cannot switch back from Braillex to VarioUltra by unplugging the Braillex and then plugging the Varioultra.

I have not had the opportunity to try with two different brands. I have access to the Braille Edge from work, and shortly will have the Orbit Reader 20 to try at home and then I can see if Jaws behaves the same way with those.

A usb would be great as like dell if they have to they send you a usb for the os if you ask for it or a download link, and no you can't write to the usb they send, it is read-only.

My entire goal in trying to find operator error, if it did indeed occur, is to prevent its accidentally recurring again. You can't fix a mystery; a root cause has to be identified in order for a correction to be formulated. Right now, though, I have know clue what that error might have been.

Hi Loreal, Whether or not you are working with a .doc or .docx file shouldn't affect how track changes work. To toggle track changes on and off while typing, press shift+control+e. Probably the most efficient way to review changes in a document is to press windows key+semi-colon which brings up a JAWS dialog of things you can review such as comments and footnotes. From the resultant list, choose "revisions" and press enter. The changes should now appear in the virtual viewer, with a numbered link above each. Activating this link will take you to the relevant part of the text in which the change appears. I hope this is a useful start. Cheers, Ed
