that command exits nvda, my primary screenreader; try with jaws? in jaws it reads the current loaded script and filename. it read something about itunes 12 settings loaded, then about playing a certain tune in apple music.

Subject: latest itunes gives me trouble

i tried posting the following in a form on the blindtunes/do it blind
site, but sending it requires verification that i'm not a robot; without
an add-on like webvisum and no checkbox saying i'm not a robot, i find
this impossible without sighted help. here's what i wrote:
today i spoke with an apple support rep regarding a shortage of storage
space on my iphone, and after a series of brick walls trying to restore
my iphone, i was prompted to download the latest update to itunes on my
windows 7 desktop, which has disabled the accessibility and
controllability of earlier versions. i can't find a way, using nvda or
jaws, to get to the itunes radio tree view to select favorite stations,
like i did before. please advise the version of nvda/jaws/itunes needed
to restore itunes' functionality and accessibility with a screenreader,
giving access to the different tree views like radio, library, store,
etc., plus how to install any necessary scripts. reverting to an
earlier itunes version may block any future attempts to restore my
iphone. thanks.

may be true on your (dave's) system, but not mine. i used to be able to
move to the radio tree view with control+9, but that keystroke does
nothing now. i'm cycling through radiobuttons that i can't seem to
activate even when checked, even the radio radiobutton doesn't take me

Re: latest itunes gives me trouble

upon opening itunes i get a data grid; how do i navigate that? how do i get to the sidebar menu to turn on? tabbed to sidebar and selected show, find radiobuttons for each control; no luck with the radio tree view so far. featured stations in apple music, selecting one brings up a genius sound and it looks like i have to pay to listen, whereas the familiar tree view i mentioned before was free. upon selecting a station this message pops up: Play and download all the music you want.
Join to listen to millions of songs and your entire music library on all your devices.
Get 3 Months Free
i don't want that, i want the old tree view i remember in earlier versions that behaved better.

may be true on your (dave's) system, but not mine. i used to be able to move to the radio tree view with control+9, but that keystroke does nothing now. i'm cycling through radiobuttons that i can't seem to activate even when checked, even the radio radiobutton doesn't take me to the familiar tree view (adult contemporary, alternative, country, etc.)

Bill:

If the file opens up in adobe, you can save the file to your computer from there.

If you don’t want it to open up in adobe, you would need to right click or hit the application key to get the option to save target as, and even then I have found the save target as option doesn’t always come up.

The problem is, Brian, that when I click the link, it doesn’t directly download. It automatically opens Adobe Reader DC, and puts the file into that app without first saving it in my downloads or documents folder.

Bill,

That's because that link is a fully automated download link.  The end user needs do nothing more than click on it to have the PDF file that is ahead of the final '/download' part of that link download to their machine simply by activating it.

I supply this sort of link all the time, e.g., Adding Desktop Shortcuts Under Windows 10.  If you look at the actual URL for this it contains the word "download" in the URL and that's generally (almost universally, actually) an indication that activating said link will trigger a direct download.  In some cases you'll get a Save As dialog if your web browser is set to ask you where you want to put any file you download and in others it will go directly to Downloads or whatever folder you've specified as your download location if set to do that.

The person who set up the sourceforge page, https://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxcommand/, which is the root page on which the download link you gave and several others are found, really did not know how to create a well-designed page where links that trigger downloads would have used click through text to indicate that's what would happen.  The link you provided, if following good practice, would be listed on the page as, Download TLCL-17.10.pdf, or something very similar, just like I did in the middle of this sentence.

jaws, to get to the itunes radio tree view to select favorite stations,
like i did before.  please advise the version of nvda/jaws/itunes needed
to restore itunes' functionality and accessibility with a screenreader,
giving access to the different tree views like radio, library, store,
etc., plus how to install any necessary scripts.  reverting to an
earlier itunes version may block any future attempts to restore my
iphone.  thanks.

keep a backup copy of itunes library folder in case you ever want to go

i tried posting the following in a form on the blindtunes/do it blind

an add-on like webvisum and no checkbox saying i'm not a robot, i find
this impossible without sighted help. here's what i wrote:

Re: Saving an pdf file

    Hi Bill,

When I choose the link with the tab key and use the context menu, “Save as...” will open a download file dialogue for me to save the file wherever I want. The extension is PDF.
Note that I’m doing this from your message using Windows Live Mail, but I would think that the chosen e-mail client shouldn’t matter.

Regards,
Nermin

Hi, Brian. Below is the link to the Linux book. It is a pdf file, and if you click the link, it opens the pdf. If I just press ENTER on the link, it opens in Adobe Reader DC. If I try to do a Save Target As, it wants to save the resulting file as an html. Below is the link.

Tom,

If your goal is to have a copy of the PDF file saved to your computer, the easiest thing to do is, once you have focus on the link for said file, to hit the applications/menu key or SHIFT+F10 and choose the option usually something like, "Save link as," or, "Save target as," which directly downloads the file without opening it.  You can then open it afterward with the reader of your choice.
