I started having a problem with the Amazon WEB site yesterday. At check out things went into a loop between proceed to check out and sign in. I called their accessibility line and they told me to change my password, I did and was able to sign in. Now after I sign in I get this challenge question: "What is the expiration date of your credit card?". It comes up with what Jaws says are 2 combo boxes for the month and year. I put Jaws into form mode and enter the month but I can't get to the year combo box. Regardless of whether I am in forms mode or not , tabbing down or arrowing down just changes the month combo box, which Jaws now says is a list box. Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Tom

Hello,
Here is an article on how to disable Chrome search suggestions credit
Windows club. The article that I retrieved and the link to it are
below.
Autocomplete suggestions are useful when you want to revisit the
websites. If you have visited a website earlier from your system, the
Google algorithm stores the results to give future suggestions and
predictions based on the loaded web results. Basically, autocomplete
suggestion allows for a quick search, as, Google stores the users
search activities in order to highlight the predict queries close to
what user intends to enter in the drop-down list when a user is typing
in the URL search field.

However not all the suggestions may be correct and one may waste a lot
of time by accidentally revisiting a wrong predicted site which you
didn’t intend to visit. Also one may not prefer the autocomplete
suggestions to show up to other guest users like family and friends
who use your computer to access the internet.

In this article, we explain how to delete the autocomplete URL
suggestions that you no longer use as well as show how to turn off
Chrome URL AutoComplete suggestions completely.

Delete all the autocomplete suggestions that you no longer use
turn off Chrome URL AutoComplete

As mentioned earlier, Autocomplete suggestions are useful to quickly
revisit your favorite sites. However, if the algorithm shows up some
sites which you no longer use, one has to clear the browsing data in
order to stop the chrome suggesting the site which you don’t use
anymore.

Open the Chrome Browser and navigate to Settings. Navigate to Advanced
and go to Privacy and Security.

Click on Clear Browsing data.

One can choose to erase everything or erase data for last 24hrs or for All time.

Delete individual URL autocomplete suggestion
clear browsing history

Open the Chrome Browser and go to History.

Select the websites you no longer want to visit and click on Remove
selected items.

One can also delete the selected autocomplete suggestion quickly by
hovering the cursor over the prediction query you no longer use in the
address bar and click on Shift +Delete keys.

Turn off Chrome URL Autocomplete suggestions
Open the Chrome Browser and navigate to Settings. Navigate to Advanced
and go to Privacy and Security.

Search for the option “Use a prediction service to help complete
searches and URLs typed in the address bar“.

Turn off Chrome URL Autocomplete suggestions

Toggle the button off to disable the Chrome URL AutoComplete suggestions.

UPDATE: This setting appears to have been moved to another location in
recent versions of Chrome.

Open Chrome > Settings > Advanced > Privacy and security > Sync and
Google services > Other Google services > Auto-complete searches and
URLs.

You can also turn off Autofill here at Settings > Autofill.

1. Do you have issue with using the microphone with other applications?
2. Some laptops have a switch which disables the microphone. If you cannot see the name of the buttons on the laptop, see about getting assistance from a sighted person or use Be My Eyes. That is just confirm that there is no switch deadwood toggle the microphone on and off on the physical laptop.
3. And for a sanity check, check the zoom settings to ensure the microphone is enabled.

I track the virus at the following links

You might want to google worldometer, too, to get a broader view.  Johns Hopkins has taken the lead from what I see in providing news headlines/articles and up to the minute and by the day case statistics including total cases, new cases, deaths, survivors by country and by cities/regions within countries.  I haven't seen the latter yet but I read that it's available.

Case data

https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Source for a spreadsheet of the JH coronavirusdata with history back to January 20.  It's especially valuable because it contains a colum for % change in  daily new cases.

Poke around the site at the link.  I think you will have to register but I know they have free stuff because we get get the daily cases table fat no cost.  The spreadsheet covers current day cases to the time the spreadsheet was downloaded.  The site may not have a spreadsheet per se available but we convert the data to xlsx so there's probably a link to convert to spreadsheet..

https://www.statista.com/chart/20634/confirmed-coronavirus-cases-timeline/

You  might also want to google  the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

You can subscribe to a very informative daily update, too.  I think you can subscribe at the site for the Johns Hopkins Center For Health Security.  It's the best update out there.

That is a by-country table of number of cases and deaths, and the table can be expanded if you wish to look at countries not particularly hard-hit at this time.  The last column is a graphic showing relative number of new cases by week since the end of January through today, and I imagine that range is constantly shifting, and given the amount of information that can be packed into said graphic I am doubting that there is alt-text that runs through each on a week-by-week basis.

For what it is worth.

Using NVDA is much easier.

Control+t is suppose to toggle the text to speech reading.

Spacebar is supposed to start and stop playback.

With Jaws, it appears that you have to use control+t to also start and stop playback.

If you have Kindle on your iPhone, you can use regular VoiceOver gestures to read the book.

Hi Gezim/all,

If installed, then just go to your download link and press it for the book to download. Then find the kindle icon on your desktop or whatever and press it. You should ideally land on your title, which you can press on. Tabbing once, you will get to the table of contents from where you can select the part, chapter you need. Once you get more books, these will appear and I have found that right-arrowing is more handy then down-arrowing if you have many book, as I do have.

If you have a smart phone, the Kindle app works fine with either Talkback on Android, or VoiceOver on an iPhone.

Or, search for Accessible Kindle for PC, and install it.

You will need to login with your Amazon account, or create one.

Sighted assistance is helpful for that login screen, as it does not read right with JAWS.

I Wasn’t too concerned about the dates since by having it set to no translation, if it is written as numbers, I hear it as numbers, if it is written with the Month as a word, I hear it that way.

Set to some, you never know if it is written with words or just numbers.

Picky I know, but there you have it.

Make sure the settings under Numeric and date processing are:

Numeric Date Processing No Translation
1 of 4
Number And Date ProcessingText Processing
Number Processing Controlled By Synthesizer
Speak Single Digits closed‑ ‑

Speak Dollars checked‑

After doing that, $2.00 or $74.59 reads correctly when reading line by line, or using Say All.

Ron,
I think you may have found a bug.
Under Number and Date processing in Jaws settings center, there is a checkbox for Say Dollar.  If checked, it is supposed to do what you want.
But for me, checked or unchecked it says the same thing.
The text after  that checkbox is:
When selected, numbers preceded by a dollar sign are read using the dollars and cents format. For example, $9.95 is read as nine dollars and ninety five cents. To read monetary values less than a dollar, a zero is required to represent dollars. For example, $0.02 is read as two cents.

Have you looked to see what your volume setting is for your microphone because you are using a sound card from your computer and the built-in mike?

Do you know how to get to that control?

Many thanks to all.
I short, I didn't have speak dollars checked.
So it's now speaking correctly once again.

Hi, Mike.  I am trying to reply to your message because as of yesterday afternoon I have been receiving messages from the groups.io e-mail lists from list members but no messages I send to the various lists aren’t getting through.  I’ll bet that when this issue is resolved that the log jam of messages will come flooding into my inbox.

No, not picky, personal preference.  I see why someone would prefer that setting the way you have it.

Thanks Mike,

I Wasn’t too concerned about the dates since by having it set to no translation, if it is written as numbers, I hear it as numbers, if it is written with the Month as a word, I hear it that way.

Set to some, you never know if it is written with words or just numbers.

Picky I know, but there you have it.

Thanks for all your help,

Richard

The number processing selection was going to be my next question.  1 Thing I noticed was your numeric date translation setting, it's set to, no translation.  Have you tried setting this to, some translation?  Dates read much better with the, some translation, setting, at least with Eloquence.

OK, I’ve found the solution.

This works for all voices.

Make sure the settings under Numeric and date processing are:

Text Processing
2
Numeric Date Processing No Translation
1 of 4
Number And Date ProcessingText Processing
Number Processing Controlled By Synthesizer
Speak Single Digits closed‑ ‑

Speak Dollars checked‑

After doing that, $2.00 or $74.59 reads correctly when reading line by line, or using Say All.

Hola Richard,

I didn't say anything about a, Say All, setting.  But, now that you mention it my version works correctly using the Say All keystroke.  The difference might be is I'm running Eloquence with Reed as my voice selection.  I don't use any other voices or synthesizers, so I can't comment on how they react.

Mike,

Using the same bill with the speak dollars checked, using Tom vocalizer Premium, mine does the same as Ron’s.

Which Say all setting are you talking about?

I'm running J2020.2003.13.400, the March build, and it works the way it's supposed to.  Ron, do you have the, Speak Dollars, option checked in Settings Center / Default all applications / Text Processing / Under Number and Date processing?

Ron,
I think you may have found a bug.

Good morning to all, from Ron Kolesar.
Noticed the following when speaking dollar signs.
For some weird reason it's saying dollar and the figures, instead of saying the figures then the word dollars.
For example, for $2.00 it will say dollar two instead of two dollars.
How can we fix this?
Many thanks.

Can anyone recommend a text-based site for corona statistics? Everything I find is a graphical screen, or a map.

Thx,
