Hi Ron,

Just to add to what Justin has said check out this note that explains how using the, Shift, Control + Delete, keystroke works.
From: Mario
Instead of opening the history and following steps, try:

With Edge open press the, Control + Shift + Delete, keystroke to bring up the Clear browsing data dialog.
The first item is the, Time Range, button.
Press the spacebar to open the time range choices and down arrow and stop on the time range you want.
Tab thru the checkboxes such as for the Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site data, etc.
as you tab thru, press spacebar to check the ones to clear out or
uncheck the ones to leave alone.
press spacebar on the clear button to clear what you've checked.
Mario

From:
Mike B
Try the following to clear browsing history:
1. With Edge open press, Control + H, to open History.
2. Tab to the, History button, and press the spacebar to open.

3. Tab to the, Clear browsing data button, and press the spacebar to open.

4. Now you'll have options like time range, browsing history, downloads... so make your choices and follow the prompts.

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.

You can try shift control and delete on the six pack and see if that works.

It seems to work on multiple browsers.

Hello to all.

I now have a new pc for about the last two to three months.

I need to reinstall adobe.

But what I’m trying to do from my banks web site is as follows:

I’m attempting to down load my statement for September.

Now, I wans to down load the statement as either a sadly PDF or even better a txt file.

But I need to clear my history with the edge browser.

How do I go about doing this via keyboard commands?

Many thanks.

Ron who curious, I can earn a license to use the radio, but why can’t I earn a license to drive a vehicle? SMILES.

moderated Outlook closing with particular key command

Van Lant, Robin

Hi,

Running JAWS 2021 with Outlook 365 on Windows 10 here at work.  I’ve noticed a quirk in Outlook in the last while and just got around to doing some more thorough testing today. Wondering if anyone else can replicate this.

I’ll be working in Outlook.  I will want to go to my contacts to check the spelling of a name or such and so I’ll use Control 3 to move to Contacts.  Immediately, Outlook will close and, if I was typing a message,  I will lose any email message I am in the process of typing. From what I can tell, this only happens if I’m in the inbox and then go to contacts.  If I go to calendar, taks list or back t inbox using the similar keysotrikes, no problem. I doesn’t happen every time, but at least 50% of the time and likely more. Same occurs if I revert back to JAWS 2020, so it’s not a recent JAWS change, but could be an Office update.  I could not replicate the problem when not running a speech program. When I tested with Narrator, it occurred once, but then I tried several more times and couldn’t get it to do it again.   At home I am running JAWS 2021 and the retail version of Outlook 2016 and cannot replicate the issue.

Can some of you on office 365 test this?  Just use Control, 1, Control 2 and Control 3 to move between sections.  As I said, I think I only get the issue if I’m going from the Mail to Contacts.

moderated a couple questions on joining Zoom calls

Van Lant, Robin

Hi all,

Using JAWS 2021, Windows 10 and office 365 with the Zoom add-in here. I’ve joined Zoom meetings for meetings outside of work, but have just been given a Zoom account at work since my company is transitioning off of Webex and onto Zoom.  Hooray!  I  have two questions I’m wondering if any of you have experience with.

First.  I noticed that Zoom allows people the option to automatically include the meeting URL in the  location field of the Outlook invitation . I’m guessing that this would be an efficient way for a sighted person to point and click to open the meeting, maybe even without having to fully open the invitation.  Has anyone found this to be beneficial for JAWS users?  I can already say that I find it annoying in that it reads the entire meeting hyperlink when I just want to hear the title and time of my meeting in the calendar view, but I cannot control how others send out their invitations. I do want to know if the  link being in this field gives me any benefit to more quickly joining the meeting, rather than opening the invitation, moving focus to the invitation body, then listing form fields to get to the meeting link – all of which I find a bit tedious when in a hurry.

On a related question, Webex used to have an option to pop-up a little notification in the bottom right of my screen that reminded me of the meeting and offered a Join button. Via a keyboard combination, I could get to this window and tab to the join button to open the meeting.  I’m now hearing Zoom do some sort of little sound 5 minutes before my meeting, but I don’t know if a pop-up is coming on screen and, if so, if there is a way to get to a button to join the meeting. This would b a lot faster than opening Outlook and navigating to the meeting link, as noted in my first question above.

Any tricks to share for quickly joining Zoom meetings?

Cynthia, That should fix your problem. If you only remove 1 the headphones won’t be recognized, and if you only remove the other, it will keep trying to download it. That version of the driver is meant to work with MaxxAudio. So the trick is to make sure that Maxxaudio is either removed or just turned off in startup. After that, you replace the current driver with the High Definition audio driver that’s already included in your windows drivers. If you need detailed instructions, let me know, and I’ll get those to you.

Maria, I’m sorry, but I can’t help you with that one. You can take it to JAWS and see if they have a solution. I probably should have done that, but I’m the guy who troubleshoots everyone else’s computer issues and don’t like to ask for help. Yes, it was stupid of me. On their most recent open line podcast, JAWS admitted the Dell thing was a problem, and they said that the only option was the nuclear option, so, basically, what I described above. I don’t know what’s on your Lenovo, what model you have, or if anyone else is having these problems. It might be worth starting a thread with that information. Also check your ram in resource monitor, and see how much you are using as the computer continues to run. What version of windows are you running. Maybe someone can help. If not, take it to JAWS support.

Yes,

I was having this trouble, on a new Dell Inspiron laptop earlier this summer.

Jaws would stop working, after about 30 minutes of use and then resume but would be very, very sluggish.

I asked about this on another list, and it appears to be a problem if Max Audio Pro or Max Audio by Waves is enabled at start-up.

Once I disabled this in task manager, my Jaws became much more reliable and stable.

This is just one idea.

I know of another way to save Zoom chat messages. Go to the area where the chat messages are. Pressing Control plus the letter A selects all of the chat messages. Then you copy them to the Clipboard using the Control+C key combination. Afterwards, open Notepad and then paste the content into a Notepad document and save it.

I finally did download the new Beta folder, but it won’t install.  The first time I downloaded it I ran it, but the installation failed.  This has happened a few times before and I have heard that the first thing to do when it does is do a JAWS repair.  I downloaded the executable file for the last update of JAWS 21 and did a repair which went well.  When I discovered it had been successful I tried again to run the Beta version, but again the installation failed.  Now that I have done a repair, I can’t figure out what could be causing this failure.

Oh, thank you, this might just solve the issues I have been having. I read the thread, and am wondering if removing maxxAudio will cause trouble with my headphones? It seemed, from what I was reading, that the issue was MaxxAudio in combination with the Realtek driver? I may be missing something here though, I realize.

I personally got the annual subscription since I can’t put my usual workload through a 40-minute demo, and I didn’t want to spend twice the cost of a high-end computer to buy a screen reader and then pay for upgrades. Pretty much the only reason I’m paying is because NVDA has really terrible braille support, but I have found a few other features that I like as well. Still a learning curve though as I find it’s hard to find all the things JAWS does, but so far the picture smart and OCR was useful a couple times already. The web navigation is slightly different than NVDA, as it seems JAWS calls things by different names in some cases, and has slightly different quick navigation commands, but I like that I can work without speech and not interrupt my music stream.

My client would tell me, “I don’t get paid till … so can you not work with … till next week?” Next week would come and it would be the same story. They got confused and thought we got our GST cheques in Sept. I had to remind them it was Oct. Substance addictions are terrible.

Because if somebody is 3 or 4 versions behind or they never owned Jaws they don't have to pay hundreds of Dollars up front to catch up or to buy the Jaws to begin with. How much is Jaws Home, I think $800 or $900 USD? This means if somebody bought Jaws and an SMA they would already pay probably around $1,000 or a bit more, they could buy Jaws annual licenses for 10 years before they reach that and who knows what is in 10 years. Nobody says you have to buy an annual license if you have kept up to date with your SMA's, but if you are still on Jaws 2016 or Jaws 18 then just continuing to pay $95 US a year may not be such a bad option and even if the SMA still is $160 Canadian and it lasts you for 2 years/2 major releases, then you are paying $80 a year which is $6.66 a month, if you are paying $95 US a year and that currently translates to around $125 Canadian then you are paying $10.41 a month which is a difference of $3.75 a months more. Add to that the fact that you may be able to get a 15% or 20% discount during convention time on the annual license then the difference is only maybe a buck fifty a month. Lastly, some people just do better if they know they have to pay $95 US a year in order to keep access to Jaws whereas if they buy an SMA they may think it's OK not to maintain it and next thing they are a couple of years behind and especially nowadays it just doesn't pay to fall behind.

If you Google "Jaws Annual License Canada" one of the first to come up is "Software for Home Canada Optelek" and that is where you can read about it, but as soon as you click the "Get a License" you are anyways redirected to Vispero's site where you have to purchase and manage your license.

Hi Mich,

It is 95 USD/year which as far as I know is the same as what it costs in the United States. For Canada you go to the same Vispero website to buy and manage your Jaws annual license and of course there is that thing called exchange rate so on your credit card the 95 USD will be converted to Canadian Dollars at whatever the current exchange rate is. Right now that would be probably around $1.30 or $1.32 so at $1.30 the $95 would convert to $123.50 Canadian or $125.40 if it's $1.32.

This is one example where for once Canadians are paying exactly the same as Americans, if Vispero had set this up to be billed in Canadian they probably would have had to charge a bit more to account for fluctuations in the exchange rate and the cost of collecting the funds in Canadian Dollars which as a United States based business they would then have to convert back to US Dollars and all that comes with a cost both monetary and administrative.

I am also pretty sure that the SMA when they sold it here in Canadian Dollars was more than the approx. $245 or $255 you would currently pay for 2 years of annual licensing. Another good thing for Vispero and in my opinion for the user is the fact that once you are on the annual licensing plan you do have to keep it up or Jaws won't work and this will get rid of people who buy Jaws and then never upgrade and next thing you have all these users who want technical support, but they have a version of Jaws which is 3, 4 or maybe 5 years behind and may not even fully support your current OS and software. At the current exchange rate the annual Jaws license costs you around $10 or $10.50 a month Canadian and this really is not so much to ask, many of us pay that much for a music subscription and if it really came down to whether I spend $10 a month on a music subscription or a Jaws subscription I would choose Jaws because I need Jaws for everything I do on the computer and I don't strictly need the music subscription especially nowadays where there are Millions of songs available for free through Tune In and other services.

Hi,

I will have to try this. I thought it was caused by an old USB keyboard, but after I witch to the Logitech K780, the problem disappeared, but then returned. So, I’ll  try this.
