Not quite answering your question but here are the steps to copy your earlier settings to a new version of JAWS. These steps were sent to me on a JAWS list earlier this week. Try the following: 1. Open the Jaws context menu with, Insert / Jaws key + J. 2. Down arrow to, Utilities, and press enter. 3. Down arrow to, Import / Export submenu, and press enter. 4. Down arrow to, Migrate settings..., and press enter. 5. Now you'll have a combobox to choose which version of Jaws you would like to migrate your settings from... After you choose which Jaws version tab 1 time to, Yes, and press the spacebar and follow the prompts. 73s, Patrick

Need refresher on how to change Jaws verbosity level
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
I’ve just installed Jaws 2019 on my Windows 7 laptop here, and, for some reason, I think my verbosity level has been changed from what it was with Jaws 2018.
Can someone remind me how to change the Jaws verbosity level?
Thanks as always.

Re: Evaluating laptop keyboards for jaws functionality [adding applications key]
Richard B. McDonald
Hi!
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I use a Lenovo L440, and I really like it. The one thing it lacks is the applications key. However, below are the steps to add this functionality to the laptop's printscreen key; which in its native functionality I don't think I have ever needed to use. This is from an email Ann wrote some time ago on this list. And, I suspect this works on any computer. So, this is a really easy and productive thing to do: 1. In any application (I used Eudora) press insert+0 to open the script manager. 2. Press control+shift+d to get to the default script manager. 3. Go to the bottom of the file, so it's easy to find and delete if you decide you don't like it.). 4. Type control+e to begin a new script. 5. Give it a name, no spaces: ApplicationsKey. 6. Tab. Can be attached to key, check it. 7. Tab, and type a synopsis 8. Tab again and type a fuller description. 9. Tab, and fill in a category (I chose system) 10. Tab. Assign to hotkey. (I pressed print screen). 11. Tab. Okay. 12. Control+s to compile. Now you have this: Script ApplicationsKey () EndScript Which won't do a thing. You need to add the command {shift+f10} and compile again. Now it looks like this: Script ApplicationsKey () {shift+f10} EndScript Close the script manager and test. If it doesn't work the way you want, delete it. HTH, Richard

I'm talking about the presence (or absence) of keys that are necessary to the functionality of jaws commands. I received a new Lenovo Ideapad and was dismayed to realize that the keyboard is missing not only the applications key but also the dedicated home, end, page up and page down keys. Strangely, my old Lenovo, the one I am typing this message on, has all these keys so it never occurred to me to try and verify that the new one would also. But now I'm wondering, how do you check the keyboard specs when ordering a new laptop that you haven't actually had your hands on? Before someone suggests an external keyboard let me say that I require the portability of a laptop that doesn't necessitate dragging around an extra keyboard. I also don't really want to remap a bunch of keys to accomplish everyday functions. So what do people suggest? Do I really have to drag myself over to microcenter or some other store so I can actually touch the laptop I'm considering? Is there another way? Thanks for your thoughts. Kim -- Kimberly

LAZZARI Ruth
Thanks for all of those fine suggestions. I am definitely going to try the Q read for other projects! Unfortunately, she also will need to actually manipulate and edit the document; for instance extract pages then insert them in another. Converting/opening them in word then reconverting can definitely change the formatting. There are many intense tax forms and formats in one of these files.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I think for now (since we cannot ask for them in another format) we might just need to split up the actual documents into 2 or 3 files to do the editing required. I am going to keep trying alternatives though. Thanks again,

One issue is the availability of drivers for a older computer. I also noticed that when I upgraded a win 7 to Win 10 OS the computer seemed to run much slower. Having said that Win 10 seems to be a good operating system.

Is there a reason to not upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?
Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,
I use a work computer which is still running Windows 7. We have now, finally, been given an opportunity to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, with a no return to Windows 7 policy once upgraded.
Is there any reason to not upgrade to Windows 10? This will be an upgrade on an older computer, and not a replacement computer, if that would make a difference.
Using the latest JAWS.
Thanks in advance. Keith
