Re: Finding page numbers

Naomi, if you're using the latest version of JAWS, simply pressing
insert+page down should say the current page number. for earlier
versions, insert+page down won't work, you'll need to use the JAWS
cursor to find it below the menu bar.

When  you purchased the SMA when exactly was that and what version of Jaws were you on at the time?

An SMA covers 2 major Jaws updates so basically it is good for two years. If you are currently on Jaws 2018 and have 1 upgrade remaining then this will cover the update to Jaws 2019 which is coming up most likely in late October as usual.

Then you will be down to 0 and $120 will get you the next two updates, they would allow you to get Jaws 2020 in the fall of 2019 and Jaws 2021 in the fall of 2020.

I believe you need to buy the SMA by the end of 2018 to get the best deal but you can probably buy it as late as September or October 2019 as long as it is before Jaws 2020 comes out, but that is something you have to confirm with FS.

If you buy it let’s say in mid December you then would have to buy another 2 years later, I always buy my next SMA more or less as soon as I use up my last update, then I won’t forget.

I missed the beginning of this thread I guess. What version were you on when you bought 2 upgrades? If you were on 18, that would give you 2018 and 2019.
If you were on 2018, one would assume you got 2019 and 2020.

Hello gang.
[] After recently upgrading from Office 2013 to natively installed Office 365, which installs PowerPoint 2016 along with the other 2016 version of Word, Excel etc., I find that JAWS 2018 (latest dot release) on my Windows10 machine can't read the cell contents nor navigate from cell to cell in any table in PowerPoint 2016. Had no such issue with PowerPoint 2013.
Do you have a solution other than pasting every table from PowerPoint into Word or Excel?

Hi,

Okay, I just made an mailing list. Open the address book, hit alt then arrow down to new, hit enter. arrow to "mailing list". Hit enter. When Jaws says "combo box, edit". Start typing in the name of the person you want and when it auto fills it in, hit enter. The name will be added.

Something (Jaws or Thunderbird) must have gotten scared because now when I go to the mailing list I can add an address. I have to close the address book after each address but at least it gets in.

Entries in a mailing list are shown in a table, but that table is not accessed by JAWS as you would access a table in a browser. After about two or three entries in that table, Thunderbird displays a "More" link. When that link is activated, more names appear. I've never created a mailing list with more than half a dozen entries in it, so it may be that you only get a few more entries at a time every time you activate the "More" link.

What I think I have done is to set up a single mailbox containing about 34 entries. One of these entries is a mailing list which should ultimately contain about 29 of those entries. It's getting those entries into the mailing list which is causing monumental problems. I think Jaws isn't telling me everything relevant on the screen.

I have both speech and Braille turned on. I have Screen Echo set to All. But I still can't tell what names are in the mailing list.

It has dawned on me that perhaps I could copy all the names from the address book to a new book and then delete the ones I don't want there. Is this possible? Are there unintended side effects? Does Thunderbird use colors instead of highlighting to show what's selected? Is it easy for a sighted friend who is not computer savvy to help with setting up a mailing list?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Lee
