Re: jaws repair
Matthew Horspool
Hi Val, It's not as easy as it used to be. Probably the best way to do it now would be to download a copy of JAWS from the Freedom Scientific website, making sure it's the same version and build as the version you have installed. If you then press enter on it as though to install, it will detect that JAWS is already installed and offer you the option of a repair. WARNING! A JAWS repair may delete all your user settings. Therefore, I would advise the following prior to a repair: 1. Go to the JAWS Utilities Menu - ALT+U from the JAWS window. 2. Press I for "Import/Export". 3. Press E for "Export Settings …" 4. Follow the prompts. After a repair, you can restore your settings by following the same instructions, but in step 3, press I for "Import …". HTH, Matthew

DECtalk ACCESS32 and JAWS, was RE: Please remind me where to din and how to download voices
Matthew Horspool
Hi Robin, Interestingly, JAWS has (or had) a driver for DECtalk ACCESS32, but I now can't find a version of DEC ACCESS that works with that driver. I'm with you, though – I used DEC ACCESS with JAWS for years and would much prefer it over Eloquence. It hadn't even occurred to me until you said something that, of course, Vispero will have all the old GW licenses and a version of DEC ACCESS that works with Windows 10 thanks to Window-Eyes, so actually it probably wouldn't be very difficult for them to get something going. Please can I encourage you and everyone else who would like DEC ACCESS in JAWS to email suggestions@... and make the case clear? I will also do this. Thanks, Matthew

I use Nathan in Vocalizer. There’s just something in the Eloquenc voices that bothers my ears and makes it hard for me to understand them. However, I do find that Vocalizer has some odd pronunciations compared to what I was used to with Dec Access in Window Eyes. I am really surprised at how many edits to the pronunciation dictionary I have had to make to normal words that are said oddly.
Oh, and I like the advice to change the JAWS cursor voice to something else so it’s really obvious when I am using the PC cursor versus the JAWS cursor.

Yes, hit http://www.eurobraille.com, then go to Support and download the driver.

I still hear the subject and message type read after hitting enter on the Email. Van Lant, Robin
Go to the View ribbon with Alt V. Tab once to the first button, which is Change View. Hit spacebar and a submenu will open. If you arrow the right, the 4th option is “Active”. This will organize the list you are seeking. If you have a lot of recurring meetings on your calendar, there will be some extra clutter from all the instances of those repeating meetings.

I have tried getting into the View Menu, but after I hit the Enter Key on Change Views, there does not appear to be a list like there was in earlier versions of Outlook, and sometimes I just like to check my appointments not by day but by going to the list. Can you do this in Outlook 2010 using JAWS 2018 or 2019? Right now I am using 2018.

Selecting the whole column first is important if you want to have Excel automatically set the column width to the longest cell value. If you are prescribing a set width, you do not need to select the column, you just need to be in the appropriate column first.

I just meant complicated because you were talking about selecting the column first which isn't necessary. Your combination works, but the Alt+H followed by O and either C or W also works and it is what I have in my table of keyboard shortcuts. As always Microsoft usually has various keyboard shortcuts and other methods to accomplish the same thing.

Not complicated for me, as I use the Alt, then O then C then A combination all the time to automatically resize columns. Problem for Kevin is that he quit after pressing Alt, then o. He didn't continue by pressing the "C" button and then the "A" button or the "W" button.

----- Original Message ----- From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2018 08:37 Subject: Re: increase size of cells
That seems somewhat complicated, you can simply use Alt+H followed by O and W which is the keyboard shortcut for Column Width. Make sure you backspace a few times to delete whatever is in there by default, then type the value you want, e.g. 15, 20, 30 or whatever and press enter. Also, here is an article from Microsoft, I Googled "how to enter column width in excel 2016": Change the column width and row height

Select the entire column. Alt, then O then W. Follow with A to automatically size, follow with C to enter your own value.

Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2018 6:32 AM To: JAWS Mailing List <main@jfw.groups.io> Subject: [Leasey] Potential Training Course: Microsoft PowerPoint with JAWS for Windows.
The following message is from Brian Hartgen and was posted to the Leasey mailing list.
Several weeks ago, we were asked if a training course could be created to teach people how to use Microsoft PowerPoint with JAWS. People not only wanted to learn how to prepare visually appealing PowerPoint presentations, (including adding graphical images), but also how to add music or sound to them, run the presentations as slide shows and add or review Speakers Notes.
This training course has now been researched and it is possible this could be produced in January of 2019. Teaching this subject however is very high risk in a number of areas.
As blind people managing our small company, we will need to ensure that visual assistance is obtained so as to include visually appealing graphics of the required dimensions. But most importantly, it is our view that the support currently provided in terms of screen-reading with PowerPoint from Office 365 is simply not sufficient for what we need to do. Conveying this subject in easy to understand terms was always going to be tricky, but to do so when the access you will receive in this area has shortcomings is even more problematic.
A basic example would be accessing the Speakers Notes. These are notes or reminders to you, the person delivering the presentation, as to what you can say above and beyond what is stated in the slide the audience is viewing. There used to be a keystroke which would allow focus to be set to that area of the screen. This is no longer possible. Moreover, if you are using a Braille display, how are you going to read those notes without disturbing visual focus away from the application? A mechanism for listening to those notes also needs to be found. There are also a large number of other inaccessible areas which need some attention.
To that end, as with all our training courses, we would need please a commitment from anyone interested to make the project viable. This would allow for the delivery of the training course together with bringing the existing JAWS support up-to-date. We have had a small number of people expressing an interest in this subject so far, but whether it goes ahead really does boil down to what kind of commitment we do receive.
The training course would be delivered over a four-hour period in January of 2019. It would include details of many aspects of creating presentations in an accessible way, identifying (as far as possible) whether the presentations were visually acceptable, navigating through slides, working with visual themes, using tables and bulleted lists, editing presentations, delivering your presentation to an audience, and more. A full course outline would be presented if the training course goes ahead.
If you would like to purchase this training course, please write to brian@.... We will then send to you an invoice for payment. Assuming we have enough committed people to make the course viable, then we will present the details formally on our website with a full course outline. The cost would be £50 which is currently $62. We would ideally need to hear from you by 7 December 2018 because that will give sufficient time for the JAWS scripting work to go ahead prior to the commencement of the training course in 2019.
If we do not receive a sufficient response, unfortunately we cannot take this project further because there are many hours of work ahead even before a training course of this magnitude can start to be prepared.
We very much look forward to hearing from anyone interested in what could be an interesting venture.
