Re: JAWS Scripts - Are they interpreted or compiled?

So, is the scripting language constently beeing
updated, if errors are found, and if so, do you have to re-compile scripts with
a new version of the script editor? Also, what language are scripts
written in, c, c+ e t c?

to compile a jaws script, you must have the script file loaded and you simply save the script with any changes with ctrl plus s. to save without compiling you use ctrl plus w. hope this helps.

The script won't compile if there are syntax errors. Imagine that you

were working on a script but had to leave your computer for some reason, but did not want to lose your work. You might be in the middle of troubleshooting something by editing your script file, but not be able to compile it because you might still be editing it.

Hi, A few hours ago, any message I sent to this list did not get through but now all seems well again.
Now that the main Jaws list works, will try the W10 list because this was also blocking me.

I found one way while looking for the option on the ribbons. Hit alt+q to get into the “tell me what you want to do” screen, and type convert table to text and hit enter. You will be in the feature to separate the text with tabs or comma, etc. Make your selection and tab to OK and hit enter. You now have just the text. Since it is one column, I am not sure what selection in those options you want, but give it a try. Just don’t save the document until you are sure you have what you want.

Hello,
I’m using Jaws 2018, windows10 and word 2016. I copied some text from a web site. When I pasted into a word document the text shows in a table that is one column. Is there a way to remove the table and leave the text?
Cheers,

Thanks for the advice. I hope I will be able to communicate this to my client, as this is a bit more than typical "end user" information.

Jaws and MS word

Running Jaws 2019 on a Win 10 1809 laptop.
If I use the spell checker in Microsoft Word Jaws locks. At that point I can not close the spell checker or save the word document. Is this a known issue with Jaws 2019?

I got the part about compiling after writing a script, but are you saying the .jsb file does not save to the folder from where the .jss is created?

HI Brian, you have to compile the corresponding script for it to work. Bear in mind that the resulting .jsb file will hold the compiled copy of that particular script and is found in the JAWS user directory for the version under which it was previously compiled. Hi Brian,
you basically press control+s once you’ve written up your script and wait
for the compiler to finish or tell you if there are any errors in line x or
argument y or whatever. You can add documentation to each script using
control+d, and you can assign a shurtcut to something as well.
But I am no professional scripter by any means.

JAWS Scripts - Are they interpreted or compiled?
Hello All,
I've got a client who had a one-line JAWS script written years ago for a specific application she uses, and JAWS used to work with it in conjunction with that tweak. I cannot, however, get JAWS 2018 or JAWS 2019 to do so, and I think I'm missing a step somewhere. I had thought JAWS scripts were interpreted and loaded by JAWS at startup time, but that does not appear to be the case (unless I'm doing something else wrong). I figure someone here should be able to guide me about how to get a pre-existing script moved along to a newer version of JAWS. -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Facebook groups, Jaws, internet brousers etc.

Okay, I think I figured part of it out. I have to use IE, Firefox and Google Chrome for different tasks. The videos are mostly not shown on the mobile site. When I go to the main site, I can see the videos, but the only thing I can see is the duration of each one. It’s a pain, but I can at least listen to them. Sharon

Some of this I can’t help you with, but here are a couple thoughts. The q qhick key takes you straight to the main region, where the principle item on the current page is to be found. It’s a great time saver. Also, for finding videos, I would use the b navigation key to see if there any play or pause buttons, and perhaps the c key to find combo boxes which might be used for duration.

The problem is that I can’t find the videos. Some seem to be under discussion. Some seem to be other places, and some I just can’t find. How do you know what section you are in when you first click on the group? I see everything in the menu with the exception of videos. Is the word video in the menu, or am I just not seeing it? Sharon

I would use the main site. There are menus built in to access parts of the current page and other pages. By the way, if you have a link to a Facebook video, it is sometimes possible to use Pontes Media Downloader to turn it into an audio file.

What internet brouser works best with Facebook and Jaws? I’m in three courses that have both videos I need to listen to and respond to, live videos I need to be at, and past videos I need to listen to. Does anyone know how to find these types of videos, live ones and posted ones? There are videos in the groups but I can’t find the video button. I’m using the m.facebook.com site, not the main one. Would I be better off looking for videos on the main site? Sharon
