Re: JAWS 2021 and Brave Browser: Not Allowing Me To Navigate With Left/Right Arrow Keys In The Address Bar
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Hi, David. The only thing I can recommend is, before you do your repair, go into Utilities>Explore My Settings, and remove all settings files. This is based on the behavior of INSERT plus SPACE, followed by Z. This runs JAWS with no settings configuration files in effect. Then do a JAWS repair, and see if this fixes the problem.

First, I want to say that the problem I’m about to describe is likely not a reproducible JAWS bug but is something which seems to be some sort of corruption unique to my profile. I’m using JAWS 2021, Brave 1.18.75, Windows 10 Pro, 20H2, Dell Lattitude E7270. This problem did not occur using my old Dell OptiPlex. The problem does not occur with other browsers. When I open a page in Brave all navigation commands work as expected until I navigate to the address bar by either pressing ctrl-L or alt-D. When the address bar gains focus JAWS speaks it as it should. However, cursor navigation commands do not speak as I navigate with left/right arrow keys and selection commands along with ctrl-C do not allow me to copy the URL to the clipboard. If I press insert-space, followed by Z to open a temporary default profile navigation commands work as expected. As soon as I toggle back to my own profile I cannot navigate, select or copy the URL. Here is what I have done so far.
I’m wondering if there are specific files in my user settings folder (not shared settings) which I could delete to see if that might fix the issue. Feedback is appreciated.

Jason:
You might be right about this.
And, that makes problems harder to resolve, because not everyone has the same experiences.
Recently, for example, I’ve been having issues with my Outlook address books.
I’m now no longer able to navigate through and edit e-mail group lists, and I have had to figure out an alternate way to copy e-mail addresses from my address books when needed.
I’ve contacted Freedom Scientific about these issues, and they acknowledge them.
They say they are related to Microsoft 365 updates.
It’s very frustrating, to say the least.
It makes me wonder whether the Microsoft accessibility people ever collaborate with Freedom Scientific prior to releasing updates.

I’ve been receiving regular Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) updates, with no problems of this kind at all. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I encountered any sort of Office 365 regression The bugs that affect me seem to stay around from one version to another.
I don’t know why some people are encountering issues and others aren’t – it’s probably related to very specific configurations.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> on behalf of Tom Behler <tombehler@...> I have noticed this too, just this morning.
I had to go in and set view to draft, and now all is ok again.
Also, this morning, when my e-mail downloaded, it was arranged in some sort of a weird view which was not readable by Jaws. Had to go in and manually change the view to descending order by date.
I suspect all of this might have been caused by yet another Microsoft 365 update.

the scripting list on freelists doesn't sound like it's a good list if one is just starting out in writing scripts. I wonder if there's a more suitable list for newbee scripters with plenty of basic questions?

Which version of JAWS are you using? Although I haven’t had this experience with Word, I am experiencing something similar with Outlook emails that I draft. I find that reverting from JAWS 2021 to 2020 restores reliable reading.

I havent’ had the issue lately, but definitely have had that before, especially after making edits. You might try changing the view to Normal on the view ribbon to see if JAWS will refresh what it says. I havent’ tried this, but also wonder if turning on Quick keys with Insert Z might give better results.

Scripts in default user disappeared and Jaws scripting mailing list
Leo
Hello everyone, I got a couple of questions. Firstly, when I’m in the Jaws script manager, specifically in the default script, and I list all the scripts in the default user by using the combination control plus L, after doing so, I look for the script where I want to move the focus of the cursor, so I push enter, but always that I do it, a message pops up, saying that the script is present in the .JSD documentation file, but the script is not present in the default.JSS file. I know the scripts are working perfectly because everything is working just fine, except for this. So, how can I access the scripts in the default.JSS file?
Secondly, is there any active mailing list for Jaws scripting?

going through the network via the WIFI? It may make a difference. I've typically preferred to connect WIFI printers to the router and access them through the network, instead of my computer having to negotiate another WIFI connection. Some of these devices you can connect them either way, and turn off its WIFI and just plug it into the router. Glenn
