Below is a link to Perdue university's writing lab, where they spell out the format for a business letter.
For what it is worth, you are writing a business letter with Word, and Jaws tells you what you are doing.
It is the word formatting that is key and I'm glad to learn that the basic business letter format hasn't changed much since I learned in the 1970's.

Yes, People do use it. But in my opinion Thunderbird is much more accessible. I have tried the mail app and it iscombersome and not nearly as easy to use as Thunderbird.

What is “5 blind people email address  by their name”?

The keystroke described displays the BCC field when composing a new message, BCC stands for “blind carbon copy” and it simply means that any email address you put into that field will not be seen by any other recipient or recipients.

For example, if you put John Smith’s email address in the “To” field and Mary Clark’s email address in the CC field then when John Smith gets the email he will see that you also sent the email to Mary Clark.

If, however, you put Mary Clark’s email address in the BCC field, then John Smith will get the email and Mary Clar will get the email, but it will look as if you only sent it to them and not to anybody else.

Who the 5 blind people are you are talking about I don’t know.

Also, if you repeat the keyboard shortcut sequence which was described it will again hide the BCC field.

The workaround from Pamela works for me too.

By the way, there are more CLI tools which you can use.

Also i use JQUERY and Biz from Seeburger.

Oracle Enterprise Manager is working better with JAWS than it used to. It can still be somewhat cumbersome, but I have been able to use it when I have needed to.

Oracle Developer would give you the graphical view of a database. I had tried using that with JAWS on my Windows 7 laptop, but it was impossible to use due to the amount of memory on my laptop. I am now using Windows 10, but haven't tried it there yet. It did look like it might have possibilities with JAWS, but it seemed to be too much of a hog for my laptop.

Oracle accessibility, in the context of connecting to a database, has also been a question I have had for years. I am glad to see it is being discussed on this list. I have asked on other lists, to get no satisfactory answer.

Yes, I know one can use SQL*Plus to connect and query a database, but how does one go about graphically seeing a database with JAWS? I know TOAD Datapoint is cross-database. Is there a way to make it work with JAWS?

Thank you,

It depends on what you are wanting to do with an oracle database. Are you trying to use client tools such as SqlPlus or Oracle Developer to connect to a remote database? Are you trying to use Oracle Enterprise Manager? Are you connecting to a database directly on a unix or linux server?

If you can be more specific, I may be able to provide more help.

Pam,

Oracle accessibility, in the context of connecting to a database, has also been a question I have had for years. I am glad to see it is being discussed on this list. I have asked on other lists, to get no satisfactory answer.

Yes, I know one can use SQL*Plus to connect and query a database, but how does one go about graphically seeing a database with JAWS? I know TOAD Datapoint is cross-database. Is there a way to make it work with JAWS?

Thank you,
Mike

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi,

Using the latest version of Jaws with latest Windows10. Is the mail app that comes with Windows10 at all usable with Jaws? So far, all I've managed to do is add an account, but now I can't get past the screen with the Add Account button.

If it isn't accessible, what other email clients, other than Thunderbird, can people recommend? I cold use Outlook,b ut that seems like such overkill when all I want to do is get my email.

Thanks,

Mike,

I am a database administrator, mostly with informix, but I also do some oracle work. I mostly do work by directly logging onto a linux server via puTTY.

I have not used TOAD for a long time, so cannot comment on how it works with JAWS.

Subject: Windows 10 notifications/toasts: frequently asked questions

Hi all,

The following was prompted by threads on numerous mailing lists
regarding Windows 10 toasts/notifications (they are really the same
thing). I hope it can serve as a handy reference in answer all sorts of
questions you may have about them (a copy of the below FAQ was sent to a
Windows 10 list).

Q. What are toasts?

Another name for notifications. Basically, when an application
(regardless of source; see below) presents a notification, Windows 10
will present a message on the right-hand side of the screen that'll go
away after a short while.

Q. Which apps or situations can send notifications?

Any app capable of sending notifications will ask Windows to present
notifications. These include installed apps, web applications and
certain websites, and Windows itself.

Q. How do I interact with notifications when they appear?

Depending on which Windows 10 release you are using (you can check this
by opening About Windows/Winver):

* Version 1803 (April 2018 Update) and earlier: press Windows+V.
* Version 1809 (October 2018 Update) and later: press Windows+Shift+V.

Note: Version 1809 and later reserves Windows+V for clipboard history (a
separate topic).

Q. What if I miss these notifications?

All notifications will eventually end up on Action Center (Windows+A).

Q. While using Skype in the background, I get a call. How can I answer
calls?

Incoming calls are notifications. Therefore you can activate these
notifications and press Enter to accept or use options to decline the call.

Q. I'm using a recent version of Chrome and somehow I get notifications
from nowhere. What should I do?

Web applications, or more specifically, apps for websites can send
notifications through a web browser. Just like any notification, you can
activate the notification and deal with it.

Although each web browser differs in terms of stopping these
notifications, the general steps involve opening the web browser and
asking it to stop sending notifications.

Q. How come some notifications have additional controls, not just a
button to dismiss it?

These are called actionable notifications. If an app wants you to take a
follow-up action (such as answering a call on Skype), the notification
will feature additional controls such as an edit field to send a reply,
answering a call, opening a specific app, or taking additional actions.

Q. I don't want to see notifications from certain apps. How can I
configure this?

To configure this, open Settings (Windows+I)/System/notifications and
Actions. Scroll (press Tab) through this screen, and from "get
notifications from these senders" section, go through each app and
toggle the notifications on or off.

Q. What if I want to tell apps I don't want to see notifications while
I'm busy with something?

This is done by setting up focus assist (formerly quiet hours). As of
Version 1903 (May 2019 Update), focus assist can be used to silence
notifications while you are in a full-screen application or playing
games, as well as asking Windows to send notifications from a priority
list or alarms.

At least the above FAQ should cover majority of cases. Please let us
know if other scenarios should be added.
Cheers,
Joseph
