Re: Looking for text with Bold or Italics

By the way, ALT+TAB or ALT+SHIFT+TAB will typically throw you right back in to the Advanced Find dialog so that you can issue that ALT+F to find next if you've switched focus away from it.  It normally hangs out right next to the Word Window where it was initially invoked, but could show up on either side of it.

That dialog can be left open, and if you're doing repeated searches that's what is typically done.  If you've set up an advanced search on, say, the word "Control" in bold, each hit of ALT+F is the find next so long as the dialog remains open.

Mind you, if that dialog is open, and you have multiple windows of Word open, it will remain open even when you switch from Word Window to Word Window.

I dismiss the dialog after I've finished with all the formatted text related searching I need to do at the moment.

In settings center there is a button called something like keycaps that I remember being discussed by Jonathan on FSCast as a way to prevent “tab” from being spoken every time it was typed (including alt-tab). So I expect you could reverse this process to have tab and arrow keys pressed.
Probably would be worthwhile setting this up in a demo user account, because I am sure you don’t want to hear all that usually.

Hello,
Generally in word, the control-pageUp and control-pageDown keys will do this if you have a search enabled. When first getting into a document these keystrokes will move by physical page, but once a search is done they move to the prior or next search match.

Select the text you want with shift+whichever key selects the amount you want and press control+u.

That will only underline the selection.

Or, press control+u type what you want underlined, and then press control+u again to turn off underlining.

It doesn’t.

You have to go to the Freedom Scientific downloads page for Openbook to find it.

Or, change your speech and sounds scheme.  Insert, alt + S, will bring up a list of schemes.  Up or down arrow to a scheme and press enter to change.  Note:  make a note of which scheme you're running when you open the list so you can revert back to it when you're done.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

If we use the attributes scheme, that does not help much, since she does not need to read the whole text.

It's for a proofreading job in Braille, where the text is present as a hardcopy and needs to be compared against the digital version. The original book has some highlighting that needs to match once the Braille version has been proofread.

Hi, Mark. There is no way currently to have key strokes included in Speech History. If there were, it could present a privacy concern. I think the only way you are going to have a log of keystrokes pressed is to install a key logger, which will present privacy concerns of its own.

Has anyone tried the Touch cursor?
Shift + PC cursor, tapping the PC cursor twice returns it back to a regular cursor.
I have found that unusable screens can usually be managed with the touch cursor.
The touch cursor is not for computers with a touch screen.

You have quoted material that mentions both the NVDA Help Group, and the main NVDA Group.

In any case, regardless of the Groups.io group, it is a simple matter to set up message preview if you want to see the first message in any topic, and then make a decision to either follow it, allowing more through, or to do nothing, and no other messages from that particular topic will land in your inbox:

How many posts does one get on the list mentioned below?  Not a exact #, just a ball park figure.  I was on a NVDA list, and the posts 98% of the time were so petulant, I left it.  Petulant, meaning arguing over minor things and expecting software to be perfect.  How can it be when imperfect people design it. A circle is just a circle and no amount of wining will change that.

Re: jaws 2021 and Zoom

Rebecca, I’ve not encountered the problem you mentioned.  I had 2020 and now have 2021 of JAWS, with no notification changes.  I have at least 2 zoom meetings per week and when someone joins or leaves, I’m told by JAWS.  At times I actually turn off JAWS as I don’t need to know all the time who joins and leaves.  Often their connection is weak so within a minute of leaving, they join again.
