What is the advantage of opening web pages in separate tabs vs. opening them in separate windows? I don't see any, especially for blind users who can't see the whole screen, anyway.

Well, I’m using JAWS 2018 still (haven’t been able to justify paying for an upgrade, yet), and have never had any problems with the status line not being read when the appropriate command is

And there are also extensions which when installed won't allow for Chrome to be closed without a warning, but I tried one of them and didn't like it.

No, indeed, Chrome doesn't give any warning when you press alt+F4. So if you want to close one tab, press ctrl+W, and when you want to close the browser, press alt+F4. Keep in mind also that

I don’t know why left alt is not working for you but you could try using backspace.
In relation to closing individual tabs the command for this is control F4 rather than alt F4 which closes the

It used to work, but now I see it doesn’t. Unfortunately, I made the assumption that it still did instead of my usual practice of testing before posting.

I made sure the status bar was enabled but Jaws wont read it with insert plus pgdn. I can see it with the Jaws cursor so it is there. and the count matches what Jaws and NVDA were telling

I just went to my music folder and the count of 241 folders is correct and then I went to windows/system32 and the count of 4662 was correct also. I use the read line command and wait for

Edge Dev or regular Edge? I get the text with Edge Dev, Chrome, Brave and Firefox but not IE 11. I dont use Regular Edge at all so dont know if it does it too.

In Narrator settings there is an item that says 'enable shortcut key' or some such thing. Without that checked, the shortcut doesn't work.

Unfortunately, that technique didn’t work for me either. I was sort of looking forward to it. I’m not sure why it should have worked, and it didn’t.
