I was right. since I disabled hybernation off in Windows 7 before I
upgraded to 10, the fast start up check box isn't available.

From what you describe it does appear that you have hibernation fully disabled, which would make Fast Startup an impossibility (which is a good thing, in my opinion).

First, before I go any further, I strongly suggest that Fast Startup be turned OFF. If you have a machine with an SSD you will not notice any difference whatsoever in boot time whether it's off or
