I really think you may have hit upon something here.
I too have noticed that when Jaws becomes unresponsive if I turn on Narrator then pretty quickly Jaws comes back to life and starts talking as

You are in the right area with Setting Center.
Open Word.
Go to the Jaws Manager.
Navigate to the Settings Center
In the Search box type “Spelling”
One of the results will be Detect Spelling

Yes, I use Narrator in this way at times as well. Narrator is good to have and I have found more reliable than JAWS when computer or software begins to ack a bit flaky.

And keep in mind that you can turn off the prompt when pressing Jaws Key + F4, if you do this Jaws just unloads instead of first asking if you want to do this.

I have just tried it and yes it does work so thanks for the information.
Unfortunately, as you say it is very slow compared to the equivalent in NVDA but it is still a good option to use when Jaws

In case anyone is curious, the remote desktop app is 99% accessible.
There are 2 buttons, that aren't technically labealed, , but voiceover provides hints for what they are.
