sort of lock-up problem with
JAWS - do exactly as Barbara
said, unload and reload.

If you use insert plus F4 plus windows key then jaws will unload and reload by itself

Bill, do you mean the option that says show preview handlers in the preview
pane. That is the only option that I see in the options that are presented
on my computer.

I'm not sure this is the same thing, but I have found that in Word 2003 and JAWS 15, after a few minutes, JAWS will still work, but there's a nasty little delay that gets on my nerves. What I found is

Sometimes I just unload JAWS with Insert plus F-4 and Enter and then load JAWS again with Control + Alt + J. This seems to work for most problems and it is the first thing I try when JAWS does not

I have found J 16 to be generally less stable than 15. I don't see much worth while in upgrading to 17, unless it can be proven more stable than 16. I'll be waiting and listening for future
