Not being able to access the JAWS menue with the CAPS LOCK+J key combination, has never been addressed by the programmers of JAWS, with the result that it has never been fixed. I do not know

we're there yet -- I've heard a few top-of-the-lie commercial voice
synthesisers and to me they still haven't quite grasped

There are a few commands for which the Insert and Caps Lock keys are not substitutable in laptop mode. Insert J to get to the JAWS menus is one of them, so you must hit Insert J, not

Maybe.
1. Open Excel options, alt+f, then t.
2. Arrow down through the categories to advanced.
3. Tab to "allow editing in cells" and be sure it is *not checked.
