Is it possible to stop Jaws announcing details of the page elements such as:

the voice should already be there by default. Sapi 5 is probably what you are looking for as this is the default Microsoft narrator synthezizer.

Try going into an empty Word document. Hit Alt-W, and tab to Navigation Pane and check it.

The concept predates windows 10, actually. windows 7, at least, called them help baloons. Things like letting you know there were Windows updates available, or that your antivirus was turned off.

I got in touch with Microsoft's accessibility center. In case anyone
neds this in the future, you need to go to the Trust center and enable
the macros; once you do that the problem resolves.

Pressing f6 does not do anything as the whole window appears to be
frozen. When it does do something it simply says "document pain"
repeatedly but without me being able to move or type.

just to add 2 cents, I heard that you shouldn't exceed 30 seconds
because having a longer time will keep the message open longer and thus
might obscure/interfere with reading other program windows
