Try using the caps lokc key and the numpad key 3.
The caps lock key replaces the jaws key.

Reading Status Line in Word
In Microsoft Word, JAWS key plus NumPad 3 reads the Status Line. Is there a laptop keyboard layout keystroke for this, or is there a way to assign another key for this in Keyboard Manager for those

My own personal recommendation in relation to Libre Office at least is to download and try using it as a portable application if you are already running MS Office.
I may be unlucky but in the past

I too found the enable screenreader copied to clipboard instruction did not work.

You might try starting jaws from the runbox with the /default switch, just to make sure nothing was accidentally changed in the settings.
