Re: How to make jaws read number of items
In most cases, insert+tab will read the current item, plus how many of how many.
I hope this works in your case.

Gerald,
Good points.
Certainly don’t want to speak for Eric, but I think he is alluding to the license being cheaper for those not current as they would no longer need to catch up.

When I press enter on speakers in the system tray with JAWS 2019 I get silence; but if I arrow down once I get to the volume mixer.

From what I have read, as well as listened to from Freedom scientific staff and podcast, it would cost you $90 and it would be that recurring charge each year to keep a current license to have jaws

How to make jaws read number of items
I used to use window eyes. It would read the number if items in a folder after reading off a file name. Is there a way to do this in jaws? Right now jaws only reads item names in file explorer not how

I’m confused. Suppose I wanted to upgrade from JAWS 16, which is the version I am currently using, to JAWS 2019. Are you saying that under the new licensing arrangement I would only have to pay

Re: volume mixer moved
Hi,
I see no reason why a JAWS install would affect that.
However, sndvol will launch the volume control, you should be able to pin it to your start menu or where ever you wish.
cheers

Re: new versions of jaws
i would be careful about removeing shared components if you have other f s programs installed.
i have openbook 8 and i don't know what components to remove without messing up openbook.

Re: volume mixer moved
it might still be there. but hidden in the icon overflow list.
try opening the notification chevron properties. there you might see the speaker icon and unhide it then it will show in the sys tray.

I meant to say shared components and not sharded components, sorry about that, and I found my answer.

Re: In JAWS 2019 how do I turn back on both the "tab" and "alt+tab" key sounds?
Hi Michael,
I believe you replied to my message on how to stop / reverse this setting. Just because the Jaws folks thought this might be an improvement and you find it annoying like many others

Hi Pat,
Ah, those were the days, I also had good old Accent for many years until the software synthesizers and Eloquence came along.
