If you are in the US, and perhaps other countries, you can connect free to an Aira agent when using JAWS and find something inaccessible and the agent can either guide you or click buttons as needed.

The only method that I've found to get JAWS to speak the number of items in a list is either to read the current line (insert-up arrow) or to press insert-tab.

I don't think you can remove soft page breaks. The keystroke to insert, and
presumably locate, a hard page break is ctrl+enter.
