I think you would just need to make sure that which ever one you got did not have to be run by some other software. If it can be run purely as a Twain scanner, then it should work fine.

Inputting email addresses in Outlook works correctly with narrator. I am able to arrow down and select the email address I want. It does not work correctly with NVDA or Jaws.

They do mean Right Arrow, and I'd just give this a try with a few of the items returned. Once you've right arrowed, if there is more than one option you can down arrow/up arrow to go

using the JAWS cursor, do you find a cancel button? if so, "click" it.
did it go away? if not, try closing the session with a control+w or just
alt+f4 and try to visit and navigate a website.
